About fifteen years ago I walked into a gym that was full of professional football players. Fancy equipment. Serious athletes everywhere. And I just froze. I didn't want to look stupid. I didn't want anyone to notice me struggling. I didn't want to use a machine wrong and have someone watch me figure it out.
So I left. I found a corner with a yoga mat and stretched by myself for a few minutes and then went home.
I tell you this because I had already opened my own gym by then. And I still felt that way walking into an unfamiliar fitness space.
If the owner of nine gyms can feel intimidated walking through a door, I have enormous compassion for anyone walking into a gym for the very first time.
That feeling is not weakness. It's not a sign that you don't belong. It's just human. And every single person in our gyms felt it on their first day too. They just forgot.
Here's what I want you to know about walking into Sunshine Fitness for the first time. Every single machine has a QR code on it. Scan it with your phone and a short video shows you exactly how to use it, step by step, right there in the moment. And if you'd rather just ask someone, our members are genuinely some of the warmest people I've ever been around. They will show you anything, answer any question, and make you feel like you belong there from the very first day. Because you do.
You don't have to be confident to walk in. You just have to walk in. Everything else is already taken care of. ☀️
Have you ever had a moment like that? Drop it in the comments. I promise you're not alone.
