Monroe Truck Trail

Monroe Truck Trail Monroe Truck Trail, noted for its cool water crossings down below, and for its baking-hot open spaces above. Popular with mountain biking and hiking.

Monroe Truck Trail is an abandoned roadway which has turned in to an excellent hiking and mountain bicycle trail. It starts at Glendora Mountain Road, heads up the mountain and meets up again with GMR about 7 miles later, crosses GMR and then continues all the way to East Fork Road, passing behind Fire Camp 19.

You may have noticed that the parking area for Monroe Truck Trail has been having the trash collected and the trash bin emptied. :) The Glendora Trails Cleanup crew of volunteers have adopted responsibility for the trash and the trash bin so it is getting done.

The Monroe Truck Trail Arch is gone, it fell and mountain bikers and hikers removed the rotted Arch pieces off of the trail. For the past 7 years the Arch had been a feature to hike to for short range hikers before turning around. Over the years numerous mountain bikers at speed had panged😵‍💫 their foreheads and helmets 😵in to the Northern trunk while the Arch was allowed to stand and rot naturally -- until it fell a couple of weeks ago and bikers / hikers had to dismount and clamber over the trunks until they got proactive and chipped away at the debris. Some clean-up with a McCloud will need to be done, yet it's kind of a shame seeing it gone now:

Trail Update – Monroe Truck Trail

A lot of brush clearing has been done along Monroe Truck Trail, all the way from the start up to GMR—tons of progress! Most of the cleanup is complete from the trailhead to the Poopout flag, which is fantastic.

However, there's still quite a bit of debris between Poopout and GMR, and more may continue to fall as clearing continues. If you're looking for a good workout or a way to give back, helping to toss the clippings off the trail would be a huge help.

The folks doing the cutting would really appreciate any assistance with the cleanup from what I hear.

Hikers and bikers have been trimming back the brush growing along Monroe Truck Trail and people have cut back almost to the oak Arch. Here is a before and after that was sent.

A call for people hiking and biking the trail to go spend time trimming back the brush was placed on a hiker / biker web site and it looks like people have responded and doing an effort beyond the normal daily trimming that hikers do.

The trail is getting run-down, and people are asking hikers and bikers to spend some time doing a little bit of work -- not a lot, just enough to trim -- to get the trail back.

A survey of the water crossings along the Truck Trail, looking at what can be shifted without doing any actual work to get hikers and bikers out of the water so that the flora and fauna is not being crushed so much. The creek changes its path often so that the trail hikers and bikers create try to avoid the water yet that's done without planning, it just happens.

This is Forest Service administered public lands so actual work must be coordinated and approved which we can acquire by getting the SGM Trailbuilders to design and oversee, perhaps.

Some work is expected to be done on Monro Trump Trail on the city side of the boundary, however on the lower Monroe at the "Arch" the USFS is being asked to send Hot Shot Class "C" instructor with fire crew to drop the arch safely. Hopefully they will do that after Summer. Until then, please go past the Arch with caution, don't park under it :) It's rotting and may pose an eventual hazard.

Monroe Truck Trail is flooded this morning, with anyone hiking or biking finding themselves getting wet from the creek as well as wet from the rain. Only one bike rider heading up Glendora Mountain Road in the rain, hopefully successfully dodging the aholes racing up and down. Still, walking along the creek (or in it!) in the rain is wonderful.
