I’m Zareh Avedian, better known as Coach Z — a lifelong basketball player, former professional athlete, and dedicated youth coach based in Glendale, California. Basketball has been a part of my life since I was 9 years old. I earned All-American honors in high school and played college basketball at Cal Lutheran University, where I was a 3-time First Team All-Conference player and Conference Playe
r of the Year. After college, I played professionally in both Europe and the ABA (American Basketball Association). Over the years, I’ve been honored with multiple Hall of Fame inductions:
🏆 Ventura County Hall of Fame
🏆 Cal Lutheran University Athletic Hall of Fame (2014)
🏆 Hoover High School Hall of Fame (2019)
With over 25 years of experience in the game, I’ve transitioned from competing to coaching — now pouring that experience into ZA Basketball Academy, where I train kids ages 7 to 13. I specialize in:
1-on-1 personalized basketball training
Weekend skill camps by age group (7–8, 9–10, 11–13)
Game-focused drills and real-life scenarios
Video analysis sessions to break down strengths and areas to improve
Building fundamentals in shooting, handling, passing, defense, and teamwork
My mission is to teach the right fundamentals early, so young players grow up confident, skilled, and ready for the next level — whether it’s competitive league play, school teams, or just learning how to be a leader on and off the court. If you’re a parent looking to give your child the right start in basketball, I’d love to be part of their journey.
