Shoulder mobility doesn’t happen by accident—it takes practice. 💪

Overhead movements can be challenging, especially if you have shoulder tightness, stiffness, or a history of injury. Before asking my body to perform more advanced exercises on the Reformer, I spend time working on shoulder openers, chest expansion, and hanging exercises to improve mobility and stability.

Even as a Pilates teacher, I have to put in the work. Experiencing the exercises in my own body helps me better understand what my clients are feeling and allows me to give more effective cues and modifications.

Pilates is a practice, and it only gets better with time. If you’re feeling stuck on a movement or want to take your practice to the next level, consider adding a weekly private session. Personalized instruction can help you overcome movement challenges, build confidence, and make your group classes even more rewarding.

✨ Progress isn’t about perfection—it’s about showing up and practicing.

Pilates meets you where you are. ✨ Master the basics, stay consistent, and watch your strength grow. Every practice is progress, and that’s what keeps me coming back. 💛

notice how my shoulder limits my range of motion at the top. I don’t let that stop me – I move where my body allows while continuing to build strength and mobility. Progress isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up.

☀️a little twist☀️
The Short Box Series is all about spinal posture. It’s amazing how easy it is to “cheat” in the smallest ways—like letting the ribs collapse instead of maintaining lift through the rib cage.

One of my favorite teaching tools is placing the shirt box bar behind the back during the twist. ( I learned this from Cary Regan) It gives immediate feedback and encourages proper alignment instead of relying on momentum. Then, when the pole is lifted overhead, it helps you discover the upward lift through the spine that’s needed to perform the exercise in its fullest expression.

Pilates isn’t about making the movement bigger—it’s about making the movement better. When you organize your body well, every exercise becomes more effective, more connected, and more powerful.

✨ It’s often the smallest corrections that create the biggest transformation.

Long Stretch ➡️ Down Stretch

Once you move past the beginner stage in Pilates, The method keeps evolving to get better each time.

In the classical system, every movement connects to the next. The goal is to get every inch out of the exercise — building strength, length, control, and awareness with each transition.

Long Stretch flowing into Down Stretch challenges your stability, your spine, and your ability to move with precision while staying connected to your center.

Over time, the work doesn’t just change your body…
it changes how you move, breathe, and feel in your body, mind, and spirit.

✨ Pilates is a practice of constant refinement.
How has Pilates changed you?

I’m making healing balm to donate to the MN raptor center when’re my mother-in-law volunteers. I start by infusing olive oil with herbs. I had been doing this for years. She takes it to work and uses it on the raptors feet to help them heel. It’s non-toxic and it works. You guys wanted to know what I do in my spare time and this is it. I also sell it and will ship during the winter if you need some. What did you do that was fun today?

I’m infusing olive oil with herbs that include comfrey, rosemary, calendula, and lavender to make my healing salve for spring and summer. Use this on your feet to help with dryness is my favorite way. It also is great for those dry cracked hands you get with Colorado’s dry weather. I’ll stock up at the office or ship. What did you do on this beautiful Sunday?
