Get to know Dana Diedrich! Dana teaches Barre Burner on Wednesdays from 6:15-7:10pm. The next session of Barre Burner starts in November!
What made you want to become a Barre Instructor?
I have a ballet, pom, and general dance background. When I started coming to the WAC, I would go straight to the barre and start recreating exercises from a fusion of past routines. One day I thought, “Hey, I think I can teach these exercises…people will dig them!”
What do you like about teaching barre at the North Shore WAC?
I get to be creative! I get to create exercises that use ballet-inspired movements to help members achieve long, lean, sculpted bodies. Moreover, I get to set those exercises to inspiring and fun music. I strongly believe that music elevates participants’ moods and motivates movement. I also appreciate that I am not required to stick to a corporate “script”, and I’m encouraged to let my personality shine through in my classes.
What sets your classes apart from other barre classes?
The WAC offers a variety of classes that target different areas of the body. My classes are geared primarily toward the lower body. I give workshops and themed class variations, such as music / holiday themed, introductory, or a class to celebrate International Women’s Day. It also happens to be the only barre class of its kind in Milwaukee with alternative and 80’s music!
What else can you tell me about yourself?
I’m passionate about music and I enjoy going to concerts. I love to travel; I’ve lived in Europe for five years and speak German. I provide consulting services for companies going through transformations. I live for the Wisconsin summers; I love just about everything that summer has to offer, including the humidity. I’m also a vegetarian, and I start every day with natural processed coffee from great local producers.
