So this is a tough post for me. But I feel compelled to come clean about a health issue I have because some of my very close friends are finding out about it through the grapevine and are very concerned.
I am a very very private person. I don’t believe in airing out everything on social media and I feel embarrassed about this particular issue. So please don’t feel offended that I haven’t told you! This has been pretty tough to handle.
In January of 2022, at the ripe old age of 49, I was diagdiagnosed with a pretty aggressive form of prostate cancer. April 7th, just 15 days before camp Minden, I had surgery. (My scores really suffered at that one!) the surgery went well and so did recovery, but markers indicated that I had a 50/50 chance of the cancer coming back within 5 years.
So the protocol was to take blood tests every six months and monitor my PSA level for signs of the cancer coming back.
Early this year my PSA levels came back indicating that the cancer had come back. However, a pet scan could not find it. I had a meeting with a remarkable radiation oncologist and received some truly wonderful news that wasn’t even available 2 years ago when I was first diagnosed.
The treatment plan is over half finished, and I have had very minor side effects! I have a very high (90+% ) chance that I will be completely cured of this cancer.
My shooting schedule has been significantly impacted by this as well as the launch of my new business building custom bowstrings. It is for this reason that I have not been able to join my archery family at the last several events.
I truly miss it and I truly miss all of my friends. My archery family means the world to me!
So now you know why I’m not out on the trail with you this year. But I covet your prayers and welcome your calls. God bless you all! And I can’t wait to see you again!!
God is good all the time!!
