Always be aware of your surroundings. Just because you have been in places or situations and nothing has happened before does not mean it will never happen. Have a plan if something does happen. I'm not sure what she means by fighting for her life, exactly what her actions were but whatever it was did not stop the attack. Depending on someone or something else to save you is a poor plan. She was lucky that 4 bystanders decided to help. They had difficulty stopping the attack. Would one or two bystanders becoming involved been able to stop it? When the suspect grabbed her lower jaw, was there the ability as well as the opportunity to bite his fingers completely off? Relying on larger entities to keep us safe, gun control laws, public assistance for the mentally ill and drug addicted, harsher criminal laws and sentencing does not guarantee safety any more than more finite entities like law enforcement or bystanders coming to our rescue. Everyone has to be ready, willing and able to defend themselves.

A father is mourning after his 28-year-old son was killed during what should have been a routine food delivery in Chicagos Austin neighborhood.

The victim was identified as Daniel L. Figueroa, of Westmont, by the Cook County Medical Examiners Office. Chicago police said his body was discovered on the street after 2 a.m. in the 5500 block of West Flournoy Street near South Lotus Avenue.

Figueroa was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, possibly from a head injury.

In an odd twist, his delivery vehicle -- a 2005 minivan -- was missing, leading police to believe he may have been carjacked.

He had a family that loved him, he was a good kid, Daniel Figueroas father, Carlos Figueroa, said. He was too young to die. A parent isnt supposed to bury their children.

As of Monday evening, no arrests had been made in the case.

Always be aware of your surroundings. Predators take advantage of places and situations. Predators view a person distracted by a small child and a task at hand while in a parking garage much differently than we do. You do have to think like a predator to protect yourself from one.

UIC says the suspect in the Feb. 3 shooting death of 34-year-old Shawnquanice Kimbrough has been found dead. Kimbrough was shot inside the Wood Street Parking Structure while visiting UI Health with her infant, who was not hurt. The suspect had no affiliation with the university, and officials say the investigation is now closed.

The suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman inside a University of Illinois Chicago parking garage earlier this month has been found dead, according to UIC.

What we know:

The shooting happened around 1:35 p.m. on Feb. 3 inside the Wood Street Parking Structure at 1100 S. Wood St.

The victim was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiners Office as 34-year-old Shawnquanice Kimbrough. Her death was ruled a homicide due to a gunshot wound to her face.

Kimbrough was visiting UI Health for an appointment with her infant at the time of the shooting. Officials said the child was not physically injured.

UIC said the investigation led to the suspect being located. The suspect was found deceased and had no affiliation with the university.

At the time of the shooting, the university sent out alerts about police activity at the garage and said there was no ongoing threat to campus. The northeast section of the third floor of the garage was closed during the investigation.

What we dont know:

Authorities have not released the suspects identity. Its also unclear what led up to the shooting or how the suspect died.

Whats next:

Officials said the investigation is now closed.

Once again the "Rigid Rod of Reality " shows the world… and most don’t see the wisdom.

Let me dive in for a minute…

Here again we have two well-trained, experienced fighters prepared to go **three to five 5-minute rounds** trading bombs back and forth.

I love the sport.

But that’s what it is…

A sport.

It has rules. Weight classes. Time limits.

Training **6 days a week for years** to fight at this level is exhausting.

And on top of that, you’re constantly making adjustments—perfecting the game plan—so you can execute it in the next 15–25 minute fight.

Huge respect for the discipline and dedication.

But as we saw again…

It can all be stopped at the highest level with…

You got it...

An eye poke or a groin shot.

Me and my students aren’t looking to trade punches back and forth to prove who the best fighter is.

And we’re definitely not looking to do that for **15–25 minutes** in the side parking lot of a grocery store at 9pm.

We want to end the altercation and get out.

Now imagine if the average person’s game plan was built to end fights fast…

And it just happens to use eye pokes and groin strikes, backed by a self-defense strategy that has been put through the ringer under stress and chaos by elite special forces, multiple government agencies and law enforcement.

Then you don’t need to train 6 days a week for a 15–25 minute sport fight.

The eyes and balls have it.
