So true!

So true!

Sometimes the healing we seek begins when we stop focusing only on ourselves and start serving others. 🌿

Yoga teaches us that we are all connected. A kind word, a helping hand, or simply being present for someone can lighten their burden—and in the process, lift our own hearts as well.

The more we give from a place of compassion, the more we discover strength, purpose, and peace within ourselves. ✨🙏

"When we practice yoga, we are better able to put our problems into perspective. We can't pretend they don't exist; we still have to deal with them. But with the physical, mental, and emotional flexibility that yoga gives us, we can move more easily, bend and flow with the stresses of life."

I want to take a moment to honor Bobby Clennell - a long time Iyengar teacher who I have followed for many years. I have never studied with her, but I was always inspired by her yoga illustrations, her ability to teach Iyengar Yoga in her 80s and her youthful energy.

Bobby had the gift of sharing Yoga enthusiastically and with Joy. May she rest in eternal peace and may we all carry and share the love of Yoga with as much as enthusiasm and joy as Bobby did.

Where do you feel your "Self"?

According to the Chàndogya Upanishad, it lies deep within the heart center: "This self of mine that lies deep within my heart - it is smaller than a grain of rice or barley, smaller than a mustard seed, smaller even than a millet grain or a millet kernel; but it is larger than the earth, larger than the intermediate region, larger than the sky, larger than all these worlds put together."

A recent article in New Scientist explores how people sense where their Self is based on the task they are doing. That where we feel our Self might be different based on what we are doing.

People who imagine their self to reside in their head or their heart have different approaches to life. Columnist David Robson explores the benefits of learning to shift where you sense your self, and how this practice could improve your relationships and decision-making

Snippets about the history of yoga...

Just as saplings
will grow from the crevices in
a great boulder,
splitting the stone with persistence
and the gentle passage of time,
just as a stream can carve a canyon,
or the wind
can bend a tree to its will,
or a grain of sand will convince an oyster
to make a pearl,
it is not always the obvious
or the forceful
that create change or growth.
Sometimes it is nothing more than
the rhythm of small things,
the purposeful movement of one day to the next,
the continuous frictions of life,
that break us
or bend us
or cause us to grow.
We, too, are the roots, the water,
the sand, the seeds.
We are pushed and pulled
and we resist or adapt,
but we cannot separate ourselves
from the splendid wildness of the world.
