Another wheel size gaining momentum

TAIPEI, Taiwan (BRAIN) — Retailers and distributors are asking for more tire choices for the growing 32-inch wheel crowd, and while that new industry segment can't by itself save a struggling industry, Bill Rudell says you can't deny the interest it's creating.

Wilson Creek Gorge Day Use Area Reopens Following Hurricane Helene Recovery

MORGANTON, N.C. — The U.S. Forest Service has announced the reopening of the Wilson Creek Gorge day use area, allowing visitors to return for fishing and boating in familiar spots along the popular waterway.

The area, located in the Pisgah National Forest near Morganton, was heavily impacted by Hurricane Helene last fall. Officials noted that the storm significantly altered the landscape, including changes to the river’s course and fishing areas. While this has introduced new potential hazards, it also creates opportunities for anglers to discover new fishing holes this spring.

Additional recovery work remains ongoing in the area. Visitors are invited to enjoy the day use area but are asked to recreate responsibly by following these rules:
- No alcohol
- No open campfires or overnight camping
- Pack in, pack out—all garbage and gear must be removed

Although most areas around Wilson Creek are now open, some closures remain in place while restoration continues. The Harper Creek Trail, for example, is still closed to the public.

The U.S. Forest Service encourages visitors to stay aware of changing conditions, exercise caution around the river, and respect posted signs and closures.

For the latest updates on closures, conditions, and recovery efforts in the Pisgah National Forest, visit the U.S. Forest Service website or contact the Grandfather Ranger District office.

Burke County Important Storm Update:
Beginning January 23rd the Fonta Flora State Trail and Mountains to Sea Connector Trail will be closed to the public due to severe winter weather. This impacts all access areas to include Harris Whisnant, Fonta Flora County Park, Linville Boat Ramp, Wolf Pit, Linville River, and Lake James State Park.
Allow time for County and Park staff to assess damage and clear the trail from potential storm impacts. Hiking or biking on trails during the freeze thaw cycle can cause serious damage to the trail.
For your safety, it is important to stay out of closed trail sections as emergency responders won’t be able to access those needing assistance without a clear trail and safe roads. Do not go around gates or closure signage. It is critical to remain off trails until they have been officially reopened.
