King of The Hammers UTV Championship won again this year. Happy we made it across the finish line in the Toyo Desert Challenge.
We had a solid run in the Desert race, considering we didn't pre run the course or even really have time to test our CT Race Worx Can-Am Off-Road Mav-R, so we simply used this race as a test run. P5 on the day it felt good for Thomas Parks and I getting to drive over the finish line after all the adversity we managed last year.
Qualifying for the UTV championship (rock race) went very well we started 22 out of 93 drivers in the Pro-Mod class. Last year I started 48th, considerably better starting position to help mitigate the dust and try and work our way to the front without the dust interfering. We did just that in the first 35 miles we passed over 10 cars and was in the top 10. Those first 15 miles definitely was hardest racing I have done, the dust sitting stagnate with no wind, cars crashed in the middle of the track, massive pileups, we managed to safely navigate our way to what was setting ourselves up for a great race.
Well... Racing happened. We had a mechanical that took me about an hour to get the car back running. Therefore we were back eating dust and once we completed our desert lap and we went into the rocks it was an absolute parking lot. We waited an hour or more for cars to winch up these trails or make repairs to get moving again and I knew the clock was ticking on the cut off time at remote pit 2. We made it almost to remote pit 2 when I blew a break like that untimely took me out of the race, I timed out trying to get the car to go in gear with a blown break line I was dead in the water. We tried everything we could but simply didn't have enough time to make it so that ended our day.
We still had a heck of a time and made tons of memories and learned a lot! We made it considerably farther than last year so I will take the positives from this and apply them to the next go around!
Big thanks to Jason Watt for always holding it down in the pits and having the cars 100% dialed JW Performance is the go to for your race team to be successful, and I'm more than thankful to be able to work with him and his crew.
