Richmond Griffins Youth Rugby Richmond’s youth rugby club for boys & girls ages 4–18. Tag & tackle programs focused on skill, sportsmanship, and team spirit. U12 and U14 tackle are co-ed.

No experience needed—just heart. Rugby is a high paced game of running, passing, offense, defense, scoring, scoring and more scoring. Rugby is played by both boys and girls. There is a position for every player, no matter what your size. And, EVERYONE gets to touch the ball. That’s right, everyone can have a chance to carry the ball; there are no weight limits. Teams ar

e organized by age - U6, U8, and U10 play tag rugby. U12, U14, U16, and 18U play tackle with separate teams for high school boys and high school girls

We offer two seasons of playing. Spring season, our 15s season, runs January through May, and has tackle teams from U12 through 18U. All high school tackle teams are gender specific. Tag season (U6, U8, and U10) in the Spring begins with daylight savings Time and runs through May. Summer season introduces our 7s program, where we offer co-ed tag rugby teams from U6 through U10, and tackle teams from U12 through 18U. Summer season runs from May - July.

What a great weekend for the Griffins family! 🏉⚾

From cheering on our High School Girls at Women & Girls in Sports Night with the Richmond Flying Squirrels to watching Old Glory DC close out their home regular season schedule, our players and families had the opportunity to enjoy two outstanding events and represent the Griffins throughout the Commonwealth.

A huge thank you to the Richmond Flying Squirrels and Old Glory DC for supporting youth sports and providing memorable experiences for our players. Opportunities like these help our athletes see the bigger picture, whether it's celebrating women and girls in sports, supporting professional rugby, or simply spending time together as a rugby community.

One of the things that makes rugby special is that it extends beyond practices and matches. It's about building relationships, creating memories, and connecting our players to the broader sporting community.

Thank you to all the Griffins families who joined us this weekend. We love seeing our players representing the club both on and off the field.

It's graduation season in the 804, and today we'd like share that one of our graduating seniors will be taking her game to the next level. Ailsa Busse, who has been playing rugby for the past six years, will continue her rugby career at George Mason University where she plans to major in civil engineering. Ailsa's favorite rugby moment is the time she spent with the young women who she's played rugby with, and who she got to form wonderful bonds with.

Ailsa, the Richmond Griffins wish you luck at GMU.
