Why can everyone Stretch?
Hey Everyone,
I had an interesting conversation earlier this week and it got me thinking about why stretching feels soooo much worse once you’ve had MAT. Well, the answer is actually pretty simple.
When you’re used to your body not functioning well, when you’re weak, unable to generate strength effectively, unable to recover from exercise properly, and constantly struggling with instability or pain, going from “pretty weak” to “pretty weak” often doesn’t feel dramatically different.
You’re already operating at a low level of function in certain areas, so daily life simply feels like more of the same.
But once you’ve been receiving Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT), things begin to change.
Your range of motion improves.
Your muscle function improves.
Your muscle contraction becomes stronger and more consistent.
Your body starts operating at a higher level.
And once that happens, even a relatively small decrease in muscle function becomes much more noticeable.
That’s why people who are finally functioning better often become far more sensitive to things that negatively impact muscle performance.
When stretching decreases muscle function, they feel it.
They notice the instability.
They notice the weakness.
They notice changes in balance, strength, walking, pain, and recovery.
In many cases, these changes are not subtle.
This is one of the biggest misunderstandings in the fitness and rehabilitation world.
People assume that because something is common, it must be helpful for everyone.
But the real question is not:
“Does everybody else do it?”
The real question is:
“How does your body respond to it?”
And for individuals who have worked hard to restore muscle function, improve stability, and regain strength, doing something that immediately decreases muscle performance can have a very real impact on their daily life and long-term progress.
Have you been struggling recently and don’t know why?
Have you started a new exercise program that incorporates stretching and noticed that your body doesn’t feel as stable, strong, or coordinated as it once did?
Have you noticed more pain, weakness, balance problems, or difficulty recovering from exercise?
If so, it may be worth asking a different question.
Instead of asking whether a muscle is tight, ask whether that muscle is capable of producing the strength and stability your body needs in the first place.
Many people spend years chasing symptoms through stretching, massage, injections, medications, and exercise programs without ever addressing the underlying loss of muscle function that may be driving the problem.
This is where Muscle Activation Techniques can help.
MAT is designed to identify areas where muscles are no longer contracting efficiently and restore the communication between your nervous system and muscles. When muscle function improves, stability improves. When stability improves, movement often becomes easier, stronger, and more predictable.
If you’ve been searching for answers, trying different approaches, and still feel like something is missing, muscle function may be the piece of the puzzle that has been overlooked.
Sometimes the problem isn’t that you need more stretching.
Sometimes the problem is that your muscles need to work better.
If you’re still looking for answers and have not found lasting relief, we’d be happy to help you determine whether Muscle Activation Techniques may be right for you.
