Last winter, I thought I had found Jax the perfect retirement set up but then it fell through; and I wound up with more horses at the farm than I bargained for over the winter. This winter really messed up a lot. It set me back and then with the heat and the humidity of the summer I find myself further behind and struggling when I should be at my busiest and most financially stable.
As you've seen I've written about the struggles of the farm. I think people need to be more aware of the fact that animals require 24/7/365 a day care. And that care comes at a high expense and at a high investment of time and energy.
Jax has been a staple at the farm since June 2022. He has worked hard for the past 4 years. I wanted to retire him before summer 2026 hit but the universe had other plans. However, at 23 years of age, it is clear he wants to do less. Which means I am retiring him the end of October this year. I have a former student of mine who has the perfect set up for him. It will be less than 10 minutes from the barn.
Jax will have a retirement party which will line up with our yearly Falloween event.
Please put October 24th on your calendars as that will be our costume event as well as Jax's retirement party.
Over the next few months I will be working to bring my horse numbers down to being financially responsible for 4 horses. Each horse I buy, I plan on keeping but sometimes, our paths diverge and they find the humans they were looking for; my job as a steward to these animals is to make make sure each animal lands where they should.
