Barren River Rod & Gun Club was established in 1967 on 32 acres of woods and open area for activities such as walking, picnics camping, etc. Members are entitled to access of the club grounds and use of facilities, including 50 and 100 yard shooting ranges, BB/Pellet Range, boat dock, primitive campgrounds, pistol steel range, picnic shelter and playground. h, wildlife and natural resources! Dedicated to promoting better outdoor recreation. Barren River Rod & Gun Club's Youth and Family Field Day is Saturday, September 10, 2016. Youth and Family Field Day is a community event with various outdoor competitions, such as .22 shoots, archery shoots, casting, trap and other outdoor activities. The event is geared towards introducing youth to outdoor activities in a safe and enjoyable manner. The youth only events have low or no-cost entry fees for competitions. State and community organizations are present to offer information and safety about outdoor activities. The 2015 event had about 275 individuals in attendance of which about half were youth. Other organizations who were a part of the event were the League of Kentucky Sportsmen, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Army Corp of Engineers, Kentucky Fish & Wildlife, Kentucky Department of Forestry, Friends of Barren River, Lions Club, Mammoth Cave Amateur Radio Club, The Well Armed Woman and others.
