Job Description:
Gladwin Arena General Manager Task Statements:
• Directs the operation and marketing of the Gladwin Ice Arena.
• Oversees sound financial management of arena, including overall rental and ice use schedule, hockey schools and tournaments, the sale of advertising space (banners) and other marketing strategies.
• Coordinates the use of the arena. Works closely with independent hockey and figure skating associations, scheduling ice usage and making necessary arrangements for personnel, equipment and materials to be on hand.
• Responsible for the ice maintenance operations of the arena, assuring that compression readings are taken and recorded regularly and that appropriate compression levels are maintained for quality ice. Ensure that other ice equipment (Zamboni, nets, boards, glass, etc.) are in proper working order and condition.
• Oversees concession area to include vending machines. Ensures that proper inventory is maintained, and personnel are properly trained to perform daily activities. Reviews personnel schedule to ensure proper coverage for daily events. Ensures that equipment is properly maintained and that all necessary inspections and licenses are up to date. Ensures that cash drawer is being balanced daily.
• Coordinates with the Fitness Center staff to ensure equipment is in proper working order and is maintained. Assists in day-to-day operations, if necessary. Ensures that cash drawer is being balanced daily.
• Performs various personnel administrative functions: hires, trains, evaluates performance and disciplines full and part-time staff. Confers with subordinates to assign and discuss work programs and problems. Provides administrative, professional and technical guidance to subordinates as needed.
• Responsible for purchasing supplies and materials for recreational operations including the preparation of bid specifications, quotes and requisitions within the purchasing guidelines as dictated by the Arena Board.
• Maintains various financial records (daily check book, processing of payroll).
• Reviews daily reports and maintains records for future review.
• Ensures that bank deposits are done at least 3 (three) times a week or more if needed. Ensures that inventory records are being completed and maintained.
• Responsible for reviewing and approving all accounts payable items prior to payment.
• Maintains required records of activities and programs, completing reports and making recommendations for improvements on any given programming.
• Attends meetings, seminars, and conferences of professional associates and other organizations in order to keep abreast of trends and developments in the community and areas of interest. Reports any such activities to the Arena Board for further consideration.
• Responds to telephone calls and other communications regarding the various daily operations, services, programs and events.
• Be involved with the planning of Frozen Affair.
Education:
• Preferred Minimum 2 (two) years of college or 2 years of experience associated with this occupation & be able to pass a background check.
• Thorough knowledge of the methods, techniques, materials, equipment and safety precautions used in planning, promoting, executing and maintaining a diversified recreational program.
• Considerable knowledge of the rules skills and safety issues, including but not limited to the following sports: ice hockey, baseball/softball, weightlifting, rock climbing, volleyball, horseshoes.
• Considerable knowledge of ice hockey scheduling, weightlifting competitions or ability to plan, organize and direct these activities.
• Ability to write in English at a level consistent with business letters, summaries, reports, using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Possess skills and competence at the intermediate level or higher with computers and computer programs including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, and Internet Explorer. Ability to prepare and deliver clear and concise reports.
