Hello soccer families! We hope that everyone is having a great start to our fall soccer season and the first weeks of school!

We are also starting a "Meet the Board" series. Over the next week we will be sharing one board member a day for you all to get to know. Our goal with this series is to help you all put a face to the name and the board as a whole. If you ever have any questions or concerns you will hopefully be able to spot one of us easier on Saturday's too!

First up:

⚽️Name
Cameron McGourty

⚽️Your position
President

⚽️ How long have you been involved with GCYSA?
At least 3.5 years.

⚽️ What made you want join the board?
What made me want to join the board was that I liked the direction the league was going. I had coached for a few seasons within GCYSA, i knew a few people on the board and I asked a generic question about the U8 field. Next thing you know, I was on the board.

⚽️Do you have a child/children who play or have played with GCYSA? If so, what age group(s)?
I have a daughter currently at U12.

⚽️ What is your favorite part about being involved with youth soccer?
My favorite part is watching the sport continue to grow.
What is one thing you hope to help accomplish for GCYSA?

⚽️ One thing I hope to accomplish is a tough question but I think it will be to grow our referee pool. We have great refs currently. Some will be leaving us within the next year or two. I'd like to see that part of our league expand.

⚽️ Favorite soccer memory:
There's been quite a few good memories. I'd say my most recent one is seeing my daughter score her first goal as a travel player last spring.

⚽️Tell us one fun fact about yourself that people may not know
Not sure it's a fun fact but I was born in San Francisco, California.

⚽️ Outside of soccer, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy golfing and fishing. I also enjoy being an assistant coach for both the Beaverton HS football team and the women's HS soccer team. Go Beavers!

⚽️ If you could give one piece of advice to our GCYSA players, what would it be?
One piece of advice would be to work hard and do not quit when it gets difficult.

⚽️ Finish this sentence: "The best part about GCYSA is....."
Is the people and community support." We've been very fortunate to have parents doing our spring fundraiser, our local businesses sponsoring signs, and volunteers willing to coach. I hope all this continues to happen too.

⚽️Anything else you'd like our soccer families to know about you?
Feel free to ask me questions on fall and spring Saturday's as I'm walking about the fields because I can't think of anything.
