Pictures from the Grain Valley Eagles 14-and-under softball team’s second-place finish in their flight of the Creature Feature Softball Tournament at Happy Rock Oct. 15-16. After three tough losses on Saturday, the Eagles turned it up a notch in the elimination round on Sunday, winning two games before falling in the championship game by one run in the final inning. It was truly a team effort, with all of the girls contributing to the Eagles’ success with batting, baserunning, pitching and defense. Congratulations on a great tournament, Eagles, and congratulations to coaches Mike Gifford, Brian Owens and Jason Rathert!

It all starts with practice. Savannah and Tara practice fielding ground balls during a practice session a week before the tournament. It paid off, too, because the Eagles played super defense throughout the tournament.

Eagles Are Champions Again!

The Grain Valley Eagles won the GVAA Girls 14-and-Under Softball Tournament with a 19-9 victory over Wellington Thursday night at Oak Grove. The Eagles, who finished first in the regular season standings, got home runs from Taylor D and Tara to take a 6-5 lead in the first inning and led the rest of the way. Good defense, including nice plays by McCayla in right field and Alyssa at shortstop, kept Grain Valley on top. Congratulations on a great team victory!

The Grain Valley Eagles opened the GVAA 14-and-Under Season with a 19-3 win over Wellington. Tara struck out the side in the top of the first inning, and Taylor G blasted a home run in the bottom of the inning, and the Eagles never looked back. The pitching was solid, with Taylor G and Alyssa following Tara. The defense turned in some nice plays, and everyone contributed to the offense. It was a great way to start the season!

No practice Sunday in honor of Mothers Day! Next game is at 7:30 Monday at Monkey Mountain Field #4 against Oak Grove.
