It's springtime in Knik! The days are getting longer, the snow is melting, and puppies are on their way! This year we got a head start on pups, with "Marge" being one of the new additions to the kennel. She is out of Puff, daughter of our Iditarod Champions Cloud and Seymour. More pictures of puppies to come!

And a big "Hello" from Wildfire, shown here with his Easter ears from a few years ago. Thanks, Dr. Hadley, for sharing the photo with us! Wildfire is doing well, looking forward to a summer of training and meeting tourists in Alaska!

Hot Tang is also what I enjoy out on the race. It’s almost at all the checkpoints but not warm. Still it’s very good, and I drink a lot of it but when I leave the checkpoints I like to have a thermos full of hot tang. A lot has changed over the years but you would be so proud of how the dogs and the race bring so many great people together from around the world.

A few more scenes from around Nome before we dive back into kennel life in Knik!

While Ryan was doing musher stuff, handlers Sarah and Ashley enjoyed sightseeing, with visits to the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve Visitor Center, Nome Visitor Center, and a walk onto the sea ice to visit the Nome National Forest.

After Ryan's arrival, all three participated in the quintessential activities of Nome: perusing the Arts & Crafts Fair and local shops for treasures, admiring the art at the Iditarod Fine Art Show, hanging out at the Mini, eating Bering Sea king crab, watching other Iditarod teams come in, taking photos under the Burled Arch, attending basketball games at the rec center, dancing the invitational Eskimo dance at the conclusion of the Lonnie O'Conner Basketball Tournament, spending time with our pups in the dog lot, waiting for food at Pingo, loading up on musher signatures at the Meet the Mushers event, and visiting with family and friends.

Additionally, Ryan volunteered to be a panelist for Musher Trail Stories at the Foster Museum, and later gave a presentation to the volunteers with Alaska Missions.

The mini convention center continues to be our hub of socializing, and we hope to see more mushers and fans hanging out there next year!

Stay tuned for a post-race message from Ryan!
