Hello Rapid City 🦖 The meeting at Old Chicago tonight was a success and we have some committed skaters that are looking to start getting things rolling for the Rapid City Raptors!! This will be our first skate night field trip event on Saturday, July 12th in Gillette, WY before we start getting some practices going in the hills. We will have a group carpooling to Gillette together if you need a ride and want to make some new friends. 🙂

This is the inside of the pavilion at Stump Lake Campgrounds in North Dakota. It is a roller rink built in 1920.

Last weekend, North Dakota Legends put on a workshop of Short Track Roller Derby. Skaters from St. Louis to LaCrosse Wisconsin, Sioux Falls to Saskatchewan Canada, and of course Bismarck (home of the Legends) attended.

I was a spectator, a supporter for our friends up North. I committed to attend last year when we had half of a flat track team (8 skaters). Unfortunately our veterans moved on, and we disbanded in the fall. In January I asked the remaining members if they wanted to continue on. None of them had been in a derby bout, and the consensus was to disband...

I couldn't file the paperwork to shut down...

Last weekend, I watched two skaters who never skated in a bout, Jam for the first time...

The veteran skater were so kind, and concerned for their safety while giving them the experience of REAL roller derby action was incredible... INSPIRATIONAL!!!

I want my friends, Megan, Justice, Julissa, Emma and ALL of our new friends who have inquired about our team who have never skated in a real bout before, to have that incredible experience... Some how, some way...I promise... -Shamus
