🙏 What do you pray for each day?

Sometimes prayer doesn't have to be complicated. It can be as simple as thanking God for a new day, asking for wisdom, praying for strength, lifting up those you love, and surrendering your worries to Him.

At Ascend, we believe true wellness starts with a strong spiritual foundation. Just as we train our bodies, we also want to grow our faith, trust God more deeply, and experience the freedom and peace only He can provide.

Take a few moments today to pray through these five areas and watch how God meets you in the middle of your ordinary day.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." – Philippians 4:6

Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city. Proverbs 16:32
Patience and self-control.
Two qualities that I continue to struggle with. I find myself in a season where these two virtues—both reflections of God's character and qualities we are called to mirror—feel like some of the weakest areas of my life right now.
Take a moment and think about the things in your life that are difficult to be patient with.
Sometimes it's the everyday annoyances—someone being rude while I'm driving, a frustrating situation at work, or waiting longer than I want for something to happen. Other times, it's being patient with my husband, my family, or the people I lead.
Then comes self-control. Not allowing my emotions to control me. Choosing my response instead of reacting. Saying no to sin and yes to God's way. There are moments when I feel like I'm trying so hard just to stay on the right path.
But when I read this verse, I am reminded of God's character and the example of His Son.
Jesus displayed more patience and self-control than anyone in history. He was ridiculed, doubted, falsely accused, rejected, beaten, and misunderstood. People constantly challenged Him and tried to trap Him in His words, yet He responded with wisdom, grace, and restraint. He had every right and every power to react differently, but He chose obedience to the Father.
His example reminds me that patience and self-control are not signs of weakness—they are signs of strength. They are evidence of God's Spirit working within us.
Today, take some time to recognize where you could grow in patience and self-control. Ask God to help you respond more like Jesus in the situations that test you most.

I almost didn’t share this.
Yesterday morning I wrote from a porch in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho (still can’t spell it without Google).
Afterward, I crashed out in front of Tyson. He gently told me to go sit in the sunshine and read.
Truthfully, I haven’t been consistent in God’s Word lately… and I feel it.
So I opened my Bible again.
And it hit me fast.
“God can’t actually make my body good because He already did.
And:
“God isn’t in the business of rewarding spiritual righteousness with worldly success.”
That stopped me.
Because I’ve been believing this:
If I do everything right spiritually… God will fix everything physically.
But that’s not how He works.
So I asked myself:
Why do I want my body to look a certain way so badly?
The answer was honest.
If I don’t look the way I think I should, I feel less than. Unworthy. Like I’ve failed.
And I saw the pattern.
Athlete. Straight-A student. Overachiever. Performer.
Always pushing. Always proving.
That followed me into adulthood.
I’ve believed my worth comes from what I do.
But after years of stress and trauma, my body is saying: “Enough.”
And I’m still expecting it to perform like I’m twenty.
But twenty-year-old me wasn’t healthier—she was surviving and barely knew Jesus.
I wasn’t saved until I was twenty-five. Since then, God has been shaping me
That is growth. That is grace.
But I’ve been grieving who I was instead of receiving who I’m becoming.
Here’s the lie:
If I don’t look a certain way, I’ve failed.
And even deeper—if I don’t look good, people won’t believe Jesus changed my life.
How backwards is that
Jesus didn’t save me to be physically impressive.
He saved me to be spiritually alive.
So today I choose surrender
Not striving. Not control.
I want how I eat, move, rest, and care for my body to be worship.
Because striving exhausts me.
But His mercy restores me.
If you’re stuck in your body, mind, or identity—you’re not alone.
You’re not failing.
You’re being invited back to mercy.
Start there.
You are already loved.
That’s where real transformation begins. 🤍- Katie

Family Vacation
I love when I get to write Wisdom Wednesday from new places. Today, I'm sitting on the porch of our house in Coeur d'Alene—a place I still can't spell without checking Google first!

We're here on a family vacation, and it has been such a wonderful time. We've been fishing, golfing, going on walks, playing cards, eating delicious food, and simply enjoying being together. Last night, we took family photos, and I always love capturing these moments because the kids are growing up so quickly. Looking at them, I couldn't believe how much they've changed since our last vacation photos.

But if I'm being honest, I struggled last night.
As I looked through the pictures people snapped of Tyson and me, I barely recognized myself. I felt like I was looking at a stranger—a stranger whose body has changed in ways I wasn't prepared for. To be completely raw and vulnerable today, my body image struggles have crept back in. My inflammation has been flaring up, my body is hurting, and last night I found myself saying some incredibly mean things to myself.

So today, I'm choosing something different.
Today, I'm choosing to speak God's truth over myself instead of my feelings.
My body is good because God made me good. Period.
What we say to ourselves matters. When we continually speak negatively to ourselves, we crack open a door that the enemy loves to walk through. He takes our insecurities and magnifies them. But when we shut that door and fill our minds with God's truth instead, the enemy doesn't stand a chance.

Ephesians 4:16 says:
"He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy.”

Maybe someone else needs this reminder today too: your body is not your enemy. It is part of God's good creation. Speak to yourself with the same grace and kindness that God speaks over you. -with love Katie

SUMMER IS HERE ☀️ — TIME TO START MOVING AGAIN

If you’ve felt a little off, stiff, or just less active lately… you’re not alone.

The good news? You don’t need anything complicated to get started again — just consistency and a few simple habits:

💥 Start with 10–20 minutes of movement a day
🚶‍♂️ Walk after meals to boost energy and digestion
🧘‍♀️ Add basic mobility work (hips, back, ankles)
💧 Hydrate before you try to “push intensity”
📅 Focus on showing up, not being perfect

The goal isn’t to do everything at once — it’s to build momentum.

Start small. Stay consistent. Let your body adapt.

This is your reminder: you don’t have to wait for Monday to start feeling better.

Let’s move this summer. 🔥
