The tone you use with your kids is a pretty accurate report on how you’re treating yourself.

When I’m short with mine, I’ve learned to stop and ask one question before I say anything else. What’s actually going on with me right now?

It’s almost always the same answer. I’m frustrated that I’m not performing, not producing, not getting my way. They just happen to be standing there.

Your kids shouldn’t pay for your bad week.

What’s your early warning sign that it’s about to come out sideways?

When she pulls away, a lot of men go into overdrive. More texts. More affection. More proof.

It feels like love. Usually it’s panic.

The butterflies, the constant contact, the intensity are infatuation. Real love shows up later, when you know her flaws and choose her anyway. Patient. Kind. Steady.

And you can’t give that kind of love from an empty tank. The way you treat yourself sets the ceiling on what you can give her.

If someone looked at how you treat yourself, would they call it love?

We were raised on heroes who take the hit and keep swinging. Break off the arrow. Get back up. Never stop to feel it.

It makes for a great movie. It makes for a hard life.

An arrow you never pull out doesn’t go away. It festers. In men, that usually shows up as bitterness and a short fuse. Anger feels powerful, so we reach for it. Underneath, it’s almost always grief we never let ourselves have.

Sitting with pain isn’t feeling sorry for yourself. It’s pulling the arrow out so you can actually heal.

What are you angry about that might really be sadness?

Being told that hurt can bring back old messages: tears mean weakness, and silence means strength. Those ideas can shape how men see emotion but feeling pain doesn’t make anyone less of a man.

When someone is upset, taking offense at their offense can pull you into the same frustration.

In friendships and at work, reacting this way only adds to the hurt, it doesn’t help anyone move forward.

The urge to fix someone’s pain can feel like love—but sometimes it’s really our own discomfort talking.

Before reaching for a solution, make room to sit with what they’re feeling.

It is painful to love someone while simultaneously feeling deep resentment.

True clarity starts when you stop trying to control their actions and focus on building your own boundaries.

Learning to regulate your emotions is the only way to process that internal confusion. Have you ever navigated this?

A lot of men think filing the papers or saying “I accept it” means they’re done grieving.

It’s usually just the end of the first round.

The first round is about the rejection. The anger, the fighting, the bargaining. Once that settles, the deeper layer shows up. The pain that was there long before she left, the part the rejection only confirmed.

That layer is harder. It’s also where real healing happens, and eventually, something closer to empathy and forgiveness.

If it feels like the grief came back after you thought you’d moved on, you’re probably not going backward. You’re going deeper.

Perfectionism is a heavy burden that leads to burnout and self-doubt.

When you constantly demand the impossible, you create internal pressure that keeps you stuck.

What if you shifted your mindset from needing to be perfect to simply believing that what you did today is enough?

Let go of the pressure.

True fathering goes beyond presence; it is about building character and speaking into a child's destiny.

When fathers show up with certainty and direction, they heal the wounds of the past.

Are you showing up for the ones who need your leadership the most?
