I used to think “sitting with your feelings” meant sitting there until you felt better. I was wrong.
It means letting the feeling exist without immediately trying to fix it, explain it, numb it, text someone, distract yourself, or run from it.
I learned that I can feel sadness without making a sad decision.
I can feel anxiety without needing an answer.
I can miss someone without going back to them.
I can feel anger without acting from it.
Sometimes sitting with your feelings is simply saying, “I see you. You’re allowed to be here. But you don’t get to make my choices for me.”
And slowly… the feeling passes.
Not because I fought it.
Because I finally stopped fighting myself.
