PenMet Parks

PenMet Parks Providing parks and recreation in unincorporated Pierce County on the Gig Habor Peninsula, WA 🌲⚽️

Social Media Standards linked below.

PenMet Parks was formed on May 18, 2004 by a vote of the people on the Gig Harbor Peninsula, outside the City of Gig Harbor. State legislation was passed in 2002 enabling the formation of metropolitan park districts in unincorporated areas. As municipal corporations, these newly formed districts had taxing authority to support the delivery of services and capital projects. Consequently the formati

on of PenMet Parks in 2004 and the improved funding options enabled park planning and the delivery of much needed services easier. The legislative changes enabling the formation of metropolitan park districts in unincorporated areas enabled the District to issue $6.5 million in park development bonds for improving Sehmel Homestead Park and provide funding through property taxes for maintenance, operations and additional improvement projects for other District park properties. The metropolitan park district funding will provide further development of a comprehensive park system for the community. The purpose of the formally named Peninsula Metropolitan Park District is to provide for the management, control, improvements, maintenance, and acquisition of parks and recreational facilities within the area of unincorporated Pierce County west of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and east of the Purdy Bridge (excluding the City of Gig Harbor).

The Beach Is Worth the Trip—A Tow Bill Isn't

Visiting PenMet Parks with water access during our warmer months can be a lot of fun. You know what's not fun though? Spending forever looking for parking, or parking in a way that creates a safety hazard.

This recent video shows traffic congestion near DeMolay Sandspit Park on Fox Island. When vehicles line both sides of the road, block driveways, and narrow access to a single lane, it creates dangerous conditions for everyone.

Most importantly, if emergency responders need access to the park, blocked roadways can delay their response. Vehicles parked illegally or obstructing access may be subject to towing to allow emergency vehicles through.

Planning a visit? Arrive early! If the parking lot is full, please do not park along roadways or block driveways.
Looking for other great places to enjoy the water? Check out these PenMet Parks locations:

Fox Island Fishing Pier
1453 Ozette Drive, Fox Island

Sunrise Beach
10015 Sunrise Beach Drive NW, Gig Harbor

Narrows Park
1502 Lucille Parkway NW
(Limited parking during hot, sunny days and weekends)

Let's work together to keep our parks safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone this summer. Stay cool, have fun, and park responsibly!

Please pick up after your dog! There are people who have to deal with it if you don’t, and it’s not always pretty 🥴

If you use a doggy bag, please throw that doggy bag into the trash. Please do NOT leave it on the ground next to the trash bin or anywhere else.

Let’s all work together to keep our parks clean 🌳🍃
