What is the Slip Rope? 🥊

The slip rope is a tight line stretched horizontally between two posts, usually set at about your shoulder or chin height.

The Symbolism:
You need to visualize the rope not as a string, but as the trajectory of your opponent's straight punches (the jab and the cross).

If your head is touching the rope: You are getting hit in the face.

If you are under the rope: You are ducking a punch.

If you are to the side of the rope: You have slipped the punch.

The goal is to navigate from one side of the "punch" to the other without ever letting it touch you, while constantly moving forward or backward.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
Never bend your back so your face looks at the floor. Keep your back straight and your chin tucked. You should be looking forward the entire time.

Dragging Your Feet: Don't cross your feet. Step and slide.

Touching the Rope: If your hair or ears brush the rope, that means you just got grazed by a punch. Clear the rope cleanly.

Being Too Wide: Don't make giant, exaggerated circles. In a fight, inches matter. Miss the rope (the punch) by an inch, not a foot.

Dropping Hands: As you roll, keep your hands glued to your cheekbones. Beginners tend to drop their hands to their chest when they squat.
