Our PeachState Power ladies played in their final 10U tournament this past weekend in Columbia, and boy did they go out in style. The competition Saturday was much better due to Top Gun separating the teams into groups by ranking - A/B group and BB group.
Game 1 was with Berkley Elite, who took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. PSP answered with 2 of in the bottom of the inning. Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 3rd (which was the last inning, due to an hour time limit), with 2 outs PSP plated 2 runs to win 4-3.
In Game 2, they faced some old friends from 8U, Palmetto Elite. The game was knotted at 3-3 in the bottom of the third, with Palmetto being the home team. With 1 out, Palmetto scored a run to win 4-3.
Seeded #4 for bracket play, our ladies had to win 3 games to bring home a title. Facing Berkley Elite again in the first bracket game, a defensive struggle ensued for two and half innings. Scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the third on 3 hits, 3 walks, and excellent baserunning. Those 5 were enough, as strong pitching and defense held Berkley to only 1 run and PSP survived to live another day.
In Round 2 of bracket play, PSP faced the Blue Chip Bulls. At stake was a berth in the championship game and a rematch with Palmetto Elite. A five run second inning, plus the two scored in the first, PSP grabbed the victory and another game with Palmetto Elite.
With continued excellent baserunning, PSP plated a run in the top of the first. Strong defensive play and pitching held Palmetto at bay in the bottom of the inning. The score was still 1-0 in the top of the third when PSP pushed across 2 more runs to up the lead to 3-0. The continued strong defense and pitching, they made these 3 runs stand and captured the win and the championship 3-0.
What a day it was for PeachState Power 10U! The heat, well it was pretty intense, but these girls never wavered. It was as if they were on a mission and heat, injuries, nothing, was going to get in there way. They all gave everything they had and left it all on the field. We are all so very proud of each one of them, they never quit and did everything that was asked of them and more. These young ladies will move up to 12U in the upcoming season and we look forward to more good things from them.
More pics to come.
