ROADS CLOSED
Due to Flooding Damage

Safety of our employees, volunteers and visitors is our highest priority. Public access will be temporarily closed to Pine Creek Road, Driggs River Road, Road to Chicago Farm, A-2, C-2 and M-2 dams. These roads and dams are located in the backcountry of the refuge and normally are only accessible to the public on foot or bicycle. We will lift this restriction as soon as possible.

If you have plans to hike or bike on the refuge, please stay off the roads highlighted on this map.

🚫ATTN MANISTEE RIVER TRAIL SYSTEM USERS🚫
To ensure public safety, the Cadillac/Manistee Ranger District has temporarily closed the Manistee River Trail until further notice. The Manistee River Trail System has been severely impacted by the recent flooding due to historic rainfall events and snowmelt and thaw.

Currently employees are continuing to assess trails and campsites discovering washouts, landslides and tree fall making the trail system impassible and unsafe.

Saturated soils weaken the structural integrity of riverbanks while fast-flowing water undercuts the bank's base, losing strength and potentially collapsing. High-velocity water and rapid water level drops create intense pressure, causing rapid erosion, sloughing off banks creating landslides, forming "blowouts," new channels, and heavy sand deposits (drifts) in unexpected areas. Unpredictable conditions like these are unsafe and should be avoided at all costs.

Updates to the trails status will be posted to our website Alerts Section: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r09/huron-manistee/alerts.
