“It was then that I found myself scrolling the internet for successful weight-loss stories. I was absolutely captivated by reading through the dozens of stories of people who couldn't walk because they were too heavy. One of the very first stories I came across was of a lady who didn't walk and began her journey by lifting full water bottles.”

Although I didn’t realize it at the time, I was slowly coming out of a dark place, probably one of the darkest places in my life. I had unintentionally figured out my why. And here I was reading success story after success story.

These stories were shaping my mind for what is possible. I was in a dark place MENTALLY. But these people were also in a dark place PHYSICALLY. Why the hell was I feeling so awful? I mean, I was super overweight but I could walk, I could lift more than a water bottle, I could sit and stand easily.

Shame on me for thinking my life was so terrible.

I was so inspired by these stories and knew I needed to have the courage to pull myself out just as they did.

🧐 Don't believe that you can sleep your way to better health?

Disclaimer I'm not saying all your problems will go away just because you start improving your sleep game. Buuuttttt I'm also not NOT saying all your problems will go away.

I asked my husband if he'd write ✏️ all my social media posts for the week. He asked what I was writing about and I told him it was about sleep. His suggested post 👇

"Get sleep, do the other healthy things"

He's not wrong. Allow me to paint 🖌️🎨 a picture for you. You start each week dreading work, playing catch-up on the house stuff, not feeling productive yet knowing you 'can't' just veg out on the couch and binge your newest Netflix show. After doing all the things, you feel as though you can *finally* relax and get some TV time before having to sleep. You stay up late, putting off Monday morning as long as possible. Work, school, supper, more blah, blah, blah. You're too drained to workout once the kids are down. Tuesday -> same thing. Fast forward to Friday and you still have yet to get your workout in or eat any of the veggies you bought for your meal-prep meals for the week.

This is life for most. And it's understandable. Right or wrong, it doesn't matter, this is how it is.

Imagine if you started by making a small change to your routine such as, going to bed at the same time each night (at a reasonable hour) or taking all electronics out of the bedroom. This small change could flip your world upside down in ways you never imagined.

🛌 By getting more than 6 hours a night, you could reduce belly fat levels (Kenney, et. al 2015)
🛌 You could reduce overeating (Channaoui, et al. 2015)
🛌 Your risk of obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and more decreases (Channaoui, et al. 2014)

I challenge you to take just 10 minutes out of your day to move your body. Trust me, your body and mind will thank you for it, just like it did for this client. 😍

There are days where I just don't want to, so I get it. If I set my sights on doing just 10 minutes oftentimes I want to keep going but I give myself permission to stop if I really want to.

Seriously, though, even 10 minutes each day will add up. It's like compound interest.

Doubt was holding her back. And I bet it's holding you back, as well 🤔

We spent the majority of our time working together doing bodyweight ONLY and slowly (and I mean very slowly) we added weights in. She pushed past her doubt when we introduced movements with 10lb 🏋️‍♀️ weights and, guys, she kicked ass!

Doubt will deplete every bit of energy you have. Doubt will have you standing on the sidelines. Doubt will tell you you can't do something. Doubt will tell you to *wait* for something good to come along 🙄

As we start this new week, remind yourself to not give in to the doubt. YOU are in control of this sh*tshow!

"We came to realize and acknowledge that things need to change for our health"

As someone who has previously felt alone, unhappy, and lost, I find one of the hardest parts of my job is to help others see the light ☀️ at the other side

I'm sure you have been in a position where you are trying to teach your child that hard work now will pay off in big ways later on. It can be difficult to paint 🎨 the picture in a way they can understand. Like with kids, when we are in the place of feeling lost and overwhelmed, it feels as though there is no hope.

When I start working with a new client I ask questions about their goals. This not only gets them thinking about what the future might LOOK like but it also SHOWS them that it is possible. When a client begins feeling as though it may not be possible to move forward, I refer back to their answers.

👀By remembering what is possible - along with other practices, we increase our ability to maintain control of our emotions and behavior.

What is the lesson I learned? Well, I can't force others to change their thoughts but I can learn what they respond to and ask questions to get them thinking. This is a big lesson because it is often the hardest part of what I do.

3️⃣ less than healthy foods that make me forget about my goals

Although I tend to eat "cardboard" as my kids say, I'm human and there are some foods that cause tunnel 🚇 vision for me. Because these foods are my downfall, I don't buy them or make them often. I've learned to take it easy on these foods by chugging as much water as I can to help fill me up.

1. Reese's - umm... why do the holiday ones taste SO good?? 🤤

2. Cheesecake - I am such a fan of all cheesecakes. Keep the fake no-bake crap. I love it so much that I will literally take the tiniest slivers and take forever to eat a piece of cheesecake.

3. Cinnamon rolls - particularly homemade Scandinavian cinnamon rolls. Oh. my. word. The first time I tried these cinnamon rolls, I gorged. I ate so many that I was sick.

Habits, habits, habits.

When you take the time ⌚ to have healthy foods readily available, making positive food choices will become much easier. I portion out foods like pistachios and almonds because, while great for you, they’re high in calories and addicting. It’s good to keep yourself honest with your portions here.

I cook vegetables🥕🫑 with just about every meal I cook. I find it's easier for me to spend a few minutes cutting and all of them at once and saving for later. These are super low calorie and a great way to keep yourself full without a huge calorie intake. Pick vegetables and seasonings you know you like and you’ll be much less likely to get bored.

When you get in the habit of putting yourself in a food environment that will allow you to be successful, you will be successful.
