The most important position happens when you impact the ball. It’s all about being at the right place at the right time. So, what should impact position look like?
Key Elements:
•Hands and Shaft: The hands should be ahead of the ball creating a forward leaning shaft. Left arm is straight.
•Body Position: Hips are slightly open toward the target.
•Weight Distribution: Most of the weight is on the lead foot, about 80%
•Clubhead Path: With irons, the club is moving downward through the ball with the lowest point of the swing occurring after the ball is struck. Your Driver on a tee would otherwise see the point of impact at the apex of your swing.
Common Mistakes to Avoid:
•Overswinging: If you are making so much effort to hit the ball hard, it will get you off track to reach effective impact position.
•Scooping/Flipping: This is trying to help the ball in the air, which causes weak and inconsistent shots.
•Hanging Back: Failing the transfer weight to the lead side, resulting in fat or thin shots.
•Casting: Releasing the club to early or at the ball causing the hands to be behind the clubhead at impact.
