ππππππ πππππ/πππππ ππππ: This past week featured two races for the HBR , as both events were with the Super DIRTcar Series. On Wednesday, the team made the long haul down to the Georgetown Speedway for the Delaware Diamond Clash, which was the rescheduled date after the originally scheduled date of March 28th had been postponed. An impressive 42 entries were in the pit area for the mid-week battle. Jimmy began the night by posting a lap of 19.158 during his Hot Lap session, which was 14th on the board. In Flight B of Qualifying, the laid down a pretty solid lap time of 18.867, which was 4th out of the 21 cars in the flight. This meant that the HBR machine would be lining up from P2 in Heat Race #4. When the green flag waved for the heat race, it was evident that Jimmy had a fast car. He was able to keep pace with the pole-sitter during the opening laps, and was just looking for an opening to get by. The car was very maneuverable, and looked on good on both the bottom and high side. On Lap 3, Jimmy was able to dive it in hard on the bottom going into Turn 1 and was able to capture the race lead. From there, he set sail and was able to cruise to the heat race victory. The result locked us into the eveningβs all-important redraw. Unfortunately, Jimmy redrew the 8th starting spot, which was the worst position that he could have redrew. It was a bummer after having had a lot of speed in the heat. After the World of Outlaws Late Models feature and a substantial amount of track prep, the feature for the Super DIRTcar Series finally took to the track. By that point, the track conditions had completely changed and the struggled. After starting in 8th, the HBR entry had fallen all the way back to 16th around the halfway mark of the 50-lap feature. By Lap 41, Jimmy was able to gain a few spots to get back to 11th. Throughout the final 9 laps, he once again slipped back two positions, and ultimately came across the stripe with a 13th place result on the evening. It was an up and down feature, and was an unfortunate ending after being able to get into the redraw earlier on in the evening. On Sunday afternoon, the crew loaded up and traveled north of the border to the Cornwall Motor Speedway for the Spring Shootout. The team was looking forward to the race at Cornwall, as the has had pretty good results in previous trips to the quarter mile, even taking home a SDCS victory at the facility back in 2009. It was another stout field, as this time 47 entries were in attendance. The track had plenty of moisture, as it had been raining on and off at the facility throughout the past 24 hours. As a result, Jimmy clocked in at a time of 19.876 in his Hot Lap session, which ended up being 26th overall. As the track continued to transition, the came out and timed in much better during Flight A of Qualifying, stopping the watch at 13.929. This was good enough for 9th out of 24 cars in his flight. By virtue of that result, Jimmy would roll off from P5 in Heat #1. The track still featured a significant amount of moisture prior to the heats, so passing would be at a premium. In Turn 1 on Lap 1 of the heat, Jimmy dove down to the bottom of the track, wedging his way into a small gap that was available. He was able to force his way by, as he got some bite off of the bottom side off of Turn 2 to get into the 3rd position. He was able to stay there throughout the rest of the 8-lap heat, again securing a spot into the redraw. Ironically, he again redrew the worst possible starting position in the redraw, which was 12th. As the green flag waved for the 100-lap feature, Jimmy was motivated to work his way forward after yet another disappointing redraw result. By Lap 3, the had already advanced 3 positions and was running in 9th. Jimmy was able to work his way into 8th by Lap 23, and then quickly was able to continue his way forward climbing to 5th by Lap 40. He was able to get to 4th on Lap 43, and he would ride comfortably in that position until a caution flag came out around Lap 75. On the ensuing restart, the was able to get into the 3rd position and a back-and-forth battle then took place amongst the Top 4. With just 15 laps remaining, disaster struck. While running third and battling closely with the leaders, an oil line ended up getting punctured, causing the to lose oil pressure. The car slowed, and Jimmy pulled to the infield, ending the night with a DNF. It was a heartbreaking result after charging from 12th to 3rd, while also being in contention for the win. From the redraw results to the mechanical failure, it was evident that luck was just not on the side of the HBR throughout the past week.
