I Am Dancin' for My Life Project
I AM DANCIN' FOR MY LIFE PROJECT·MONDAY, JUNE 3, 2019
WHO ARE WE AGAIN? The I am Dancin’ for My Life Project is an HBCU styled dance and baton twirling majorette squad out of Gary, IN. IAMD4ML is the brainchild of it’s founder and choreographer/Artistic Director, Crystal L. Crystal , a former majorette and 1987 grad of the famed Theodore Roosevelt High School
in Gary, IN, saw a need that wasn't being met in her beloved hometown. Schools were merging and/or closing due to lack of enrollment (a result of people fleeing the poverty and blight in the city) which affects the funding. Her alma mater ‘s band no longer had majorettes nor pom-pom girls. No activities means idle kids. A solution was needed and quick! Not one to just talk the talk and not walk the walk, Crystal had a vision and put her plan into action! Ms. Crystal, as she’s known by her students, was tired of seeing young girls roaming around Gary with nothing to do! Though it took a few years and a ton of tears, let downs and pitfalls...oh and some valleys too, Finally, the dream came to fruition. So in 2011 she launched IAMD4ML...well... sort of. It took 3 more years for the team to actually take off. In June of 2014, IAMD4ML hit the scene running or you can say dancing and marching. Their 1st performance brought them a 1st place Best Walking Unit trophy in the Gary Independence Day Parade on July 4th. They were also one of the opening acts as well as finalists in the Michael Jackson Tribute and Festival of the Arts which took place at the Jackson homestead and RHS’s football field.. What We Offer
