Can't say I'm going to miss 2025. It started out hopeful with a full local TT schedule and Time Trial Nationals making a stop at my home track.

Reality was me missing nationals because the car wasn't ready. Then finding out just over a week later that Pittrace was closing forever at the end of the year. Spent the whole month of October hitting every event I cared about. Watched the sun set over the VDA one final time with . Managed to get the S2000 sort of straightened out and watched it run a string of PB's in a row between Pittrace & . Closed out one of the best track night programs in the country. And got to finish it all in style with a lapping day on the original Beaverun North Course at Pittrace. The ending definitely sucked, but again I got to spend it all with the best damn people. 🥂

Clockwise from the top left: The S2000's ten final minutes on track at Pittrace. seeing us off at track night with one final toast. Lucky chilling in the at TT Nats. The peanut gallery announcing table with Yoder & Randy at the last STC event.

All good things...

I celebrated the end with STC Solo. Was there for the last two track nights as both a participant & worker. But this was my last trip to Pittrace. Not just any lapping day, but a return to the original North Course configuration from the early Beaverun days of the track. If you've never seen the original turn 2-3-4 combo it's a helva thing to drive. Felt like seeing an old friend again.

Absolutely massive thanks to Robert Korn for putting this together because without him a lot of people wouldn't have got their final laps in. I was helping as a volunteer and was able to get the S2000 to go to bat one more time. Never drove it on the old circuit and despite being it's 3rd event in a month it ran like it was on a mission. Gave several rides to good friends which was a first in that car. Locked horns on track with my long time friends (nemesis?) Brian in his E36 M3. Went out in the last 10 mins. Watched as the sun set over the hills and raced into the dusk. Set a personal best. And took the checkered one last time. Absolute bliss. Did some parade laps and took the forbidden MotoAmerica chicane lol. Hung out with the Ohio boys from Atomic Motorsports for a bit. Said my goodbyes to some of the workers. And found out the S2K will do donuts if it's angry enough lol. If it ends this way my Pittrace experience ends then it ends on a high note.

This whole track closing situation has been the absolute worst, but I got to spend it all with the best damn people. People I never would have met if it wasn't for this place and I will always be grateful for that. Catch everyone somewhere in 2026 🤙

October has been busy enough with trying to squeeze in as many Pittrace events as possible. Almost skipped this one, but glad I didn't. Huge thanks to Jay for being kind enough to give the S2000 a trailer ride for the day. After working well at Track Night I just checked the car over and decided to see what it would do at Nelsons. Spent the day chasing Matthew Haskins & Nick Luther in their respective S2000's and honestly it was a riot. They both broke into the 1:14's but I was just happy mine was hanging on throughout the day. Brian in his E36 M3 even chased me into the 1:15's as well (the rivalry is alive & well lol). Now that I can collect some actual data I'm already starting to realize I need to clean up my driving in a few areas. Thankfully I have Matt & Nick to compare too. Decided to go out on top in the last session and run the car green to checkers. Worked flawlessly all weekend though it's definitely ready for new brake pads. Was good to catch up with the TT folks one more time. Hell even Mark Aubele & Dan Foley came out in their grocery getters to lay down some damn impressive times. Brian James took a ton of pictures over the weekend so looking forward to seeing those too. Finally big thanks to all the NeOhio SCCA folks for running a smooth ass event!

Tomorrow is the last track night ever at Pittrace. Sunday last North Park for the season. And Monday a special final track event at Pittrace that I'm looking forward too.

Hasn't been a great past few months for the S. Had a hard time getting the new suspension to play nice. Then at the August TT event at Pittrace the car lost power. While investigating that found some other stuff that wasn't right. Missed TT Nats at my home track. Then that same home track announced they were closing forever at the end of the year. At which point I said we're only getting one more shot at this so better make it count.

Entered the second to last track night for the year around Pittrace. Big thanks to .to.flat (Matt Haskins) for getting the suspension sorted and (Matt Simmons) for lending me a working GPS so I could hopefully get some clear laps and see what time the car was putting down. And thankfully the S finally showed up in a big way and chopped 3 seconds off its previous PB here. I know it can drop down to a 2 minute lap pretty easily, but I was happy enough to make this last chance count. One more lapping day here with just the North Course. And maybe a quick trip back to Nelson Ledges in between!

Damn near 25 years ago I got my start in autocrossing and it didn't take me long to come into contact with my local SCCA region of who was at the time running at a local airport. Very soon after I ended up on the solo board, went to several national events, chased driver of the year points, and made a ton of life long friends along the way. Biggest change was moving all of the region's activities to Pittrace (Beaverun in the early days of 2002). There the region had a place to call home. A place that was secure. In 2013 I started to get burnout and moved onto other racing disciplines, but I never stopped watching my home region. In time new blood came in, the pavement expanded, and they began producing drivers competing at a level previously unheard of. With several national champions calling the region home things were looking good. While things felt different compared to when I ran I always made a point to do a local event or two a year at Pittrace. Just to keep in touch and go against some great local competition.

Two weeks ago the region received the devastating news that at the end of 2025 Pittrace would cease to be. No warning was given. Just a filler statement and some rumors of the track plowed over into a data center. The dust hasn't fully settled yet, but trust me when I say in all my years I've never seen anything like this effect every racer I know. It sucks...it really fu***ng sucks.

As luck would have it had two more events to go. Fitting that I was able to get in for the last event with Lucky for the big send off. It was an all-star event with close to 150 drivers showing up from different regions & different periods in STC's history. Despite possibly being the last time the region runs there it went out with an absolute bang. People camped on site. The course was fast. The field was loaded with competition. I got lucky enough to be an announcer with Randy and it was a damn riot. We ran till we were yelled at...then ran one more lol. If that's how it ends then the region did good.

However. STC didn't start at Pittrace. It's not going to end there either.

\\\SCCA Time Trial Nationals 2025///

Well none of this went how I expected. Spent all year waiting to run TT Nationals at my home track. Only to have the S2000 throw me a curveball just weeks prior. While the motor seems okay I still don't know the main cause of the power loss during the August event so I decided to pull my entry. And while it was the right call for the car mentally it put me in a bad place for a bit. Eventually I came to terms that I would just go up and try to enjoy myself. Thankfully I made the decision to take the Civic up for the weekend and just enjoy hanging with everyone I only see once a year.

Since I brought my race gear "just in case I needed it" I ended up getting the opportunity to take a session on track in Brian's E36 M3. Which was awesome since I've been racing against that car for years and always wanted to give it a go. Very different to the S2000, but still very familiar to drive. Looking forward to seeing what he thinks of the S2K someday.

Also I need to talk about the car show with . Generally car shows aren't my thing, but doing some volunteer work on Saturday working with several of the Superfly staff I got to talk to them a bit. Learned about their beginnings, their several hundred car shows, how they create their merch right on site, and having their check in system basically down to a science. Honestly I've never seen a group that not only had their s**t together, but generally created a fun experience as well. I have zero doubts that with next year having more than a few weeks to prepare the show they will put on is probably going to be out of hand in the best way possible lol.

Speaking of the car show I entered Lucky in there alongside Dan & Brandon's Fit's so we had a nice all Honda lineup going. Even funnier since Lucky was the only EF Civic on site all weekend it kept getting its picture taken by random people, or they would come up and say "You don't see these much anymore". That's how you know you have an old car lol.

Overall SCCA put on a great first TT Nats at Pittrace. Hopefully I'm back on track for 2026 🤙

So the last local TT of the year at my home track of Pittrace went good, but not great. Rolled onto the track Saturday with hopes of finally getting some laps on the new suspension & wheels before Nationals rolls through here next month. Things started good, then slowly as the temps came up the car started cutting power. Despite being overfilled on oil and carrying plenty of gas the car just wasn't happy and was getting slower as the day went on. Decided to park it in the afternoon. Found a very tiny piece of metal in the VTEC solenoid screen, but a later inspection of the oil filter & a bore scope into the oil pan didn't show anything of concern. So hopefully the motor lives to fight another day, but now that leaves me with still trying to find the cause. And being pressed on time going into September I'm probably going to have to pull my entry from TT Nats which absolutely sucks. Just ran out of time this year to get everything sorted.

While Saturday wasn't great, Sunday wasn't a lost cause. Enter and the fine folks at who quickly got me into Sunday's autox with Cameron's Miata. Which was awesome since I always wanted a crack at that car and he's selling it in a few weeks lol. Coming from the S2K I was always curious about the differences between it and the ND platform. I was running back & forth coaching the TT sessions on Sunday and getting my runs in. Didn't set the world on fire with my driving, but I really want to thank Cameron for the opportunity and STC Solo for being accommodating for me. It meant a lot after a rough Saturday. Good luck to everyone in the region heading out to Solo Nationals!

\\\OPTT #3 Stars & Stripes Time Trial @ Nelson Ledges///
Hands down my favorite event of the year so far even if everything didn't go as planned.

First time running the S2000 in Tuner with its new coilovers & swaybars. Wasn't aligned yet, but close enough for testing for the weekend. First session on Saturday just getting used to the balance. I hear a noise under the car as it goes through the kink traveling well north of 100mph. REALLY a bad time to find out something is going wrong. As I turn in for T13 I heard a large bang from under the car. Still rolling I decide to make a quick duck into the pits before anything else happened. Turns out the sway bar arm that goes between the spline bar & endlink slid off. After that the endlink stood no chance at keeping it on the car. Thankfully Nelson Ledges safety crew grabbed it immediately. Couldn't run the front bar again since the endlink split, so decide to also disable the rear bar so the car wasn't a drift machine. As I have the car in the air I see a wall of black clouds heading for paddock. Got the car down just before the monsoon hit us. Thankfully it didn't ruin the day since the sun came out immediately afterwards and we all only lost one session as a result. I cranked the shocks the whole way up to help compensate a bit for the lack of bars and ran the S the rest of the weekend without issue. Just wasn't anywhere near last events PB times because the car handled like a slug, but I was happy to finish regardless. Big shout out here to Brian over at Karcepts for helping to inspect the arm over email and tell me how to fix up the damaged splines. New endlinks are on the way and the rest of the swaybar arms will get a retorqued before going out again.

Saturday's excitement continued as we rolled into the Enduro with Matt Haskins taking his first ever stint followed by Mario. Things were going great with Matt's session as the Sentra battled its way through the field. It wasn't till it came in for fuel and to put Mario in the seat that things seemed off. First the car wouldn't start. When it finally did and started making laps again it sounded pretty bad and was seconds a lap down from before. The decision was made to call it and bring the car in. After some testing the whole engine was down on compression so that was the end of that.

However outside of my swaybar leaving the chat and the Sentra pulling half a enduro it was a great time outside of that. As the sun was going down the S2000 got its first on track roller shots so I can't wait to see those. Atomic Autosports hosted a taco dinner on Saturday night which was fantastic. Spent the evening with friends gathered around outside Mario's trailer. This included Mark Aubele who I haven't been to a event with in years so that was awesome. Not to mention this event also marked the return of Manfred Woodall to the TT grid which was great to see. As well as a large contingent of our Pittsburgh hillclimb group Wankerville! Around midnight a large group of us headed out for a late night track walk and well...if you know, you know. Came back and got to experience camping at Nelsons which involved the showers having water pressure issues, sleeping on a hard floor because I didn't have a pad under my sleeping bag, and peeing in a field barefoot in wet grass at 2:30am is something I won't ever forget lol.

Sunday with me being somewhat sleep deprived and the car not exactly in top form I decided to just get my times and pack it in. While it was another class win for me I don't feel it was fair since the S2k had a big power advantage over Lanny's Datsun 510. And out of the two Lanny's car is the FAR better looking car IMO! Massive thanks to Brandon Anderson and everyone else at NeOhio SCCA for pulling off a great Time Trial experience. These kind of events, the competition, and the general vibe is what I like to see in OPTT 🤙
