We had an amazing weekend at the studio! We had 2 dancers earn amazing achievements they’ve been working so hard for! Sariyah got her ribbons for her ballet shoes in preparation for going en pointe, and Vivi got her first pair of pointe shoes!! A huge round of applause to both of them, they have worked so hard!
I’m sure you have questions like “what’s the benefit to wearing ribbons on their ballet shoes?” And, “why do they have to wait for the “okay” from a teacher to go en pointe?”
Sewing ribbons on your child’s ballet shoes (only with permission from your ballet teacher of course!) teaches responsibility, discipline, and timeliness. They are responsible for learning how to tie their ribbons and keeping them nice and neat inside the classroom and while they aren’t being worn! They learn to tie them well enough that they don’t have to do it a second time so they aren’t distracted by them in class, and they eventually will get so fast at tying them they will be able to do it in the span of Ms. Michelle’s timer! (We never know how long that will be!)
It’s important that a dancer is ready for pointe based on their teacher’s recommendation only. This is simply for the safety of the dancer. If you were to go up en pointe too soon, lack of strength and endurance can create major injuries that could affect you for much longer than just a few weeks. Ms. Michelle’s goal is to create healthy dancers that are able to be healthy lifelong, keeping you or your dancer injury free.
A huge thank you to the new BLOCH store in Salt Lake City, April was an amazing help fitting pointe shoes and we’re grateful for the amazing new store!
