Rugged Radios for the win. Time to upgrade our comms in 4688. We are going with the new digital M1 radio and 6100 intercom system. We are also replacing all the PTT wiring, Antenna and cable. Our 10+ year old rugged radio has been great, but we lost comms during the last race and had weird issues when we would key up so it's time to get some fresh stuff in the car.

Race recap. Bowling Green Kentucky April 2024

We fought hard and found a way to get to the top of the box and a 1st place finish at the Holley Battle of the Bluegrass in Bowling Green Kentucky.
The ole orange 4688 Rpmextreme - Warn Racing Jeep has seen a lot of miles and coming off of our finish at King of the Hammers we did minimal prep for this race.
Our Falken Tires and Rock Krawler Suspension were still in great shape from KOH so we did a bolt and fluid check and put her on the trailer for Kentucky.
Were were able to get some good practice runs on Friday morning, made a few adjustments to our ADS Racing Shocks and the Jeepeep felt great.
Qualifying was Friday afternoon and we wanted to put down a good time so we could start in the front for the prelim race.
I am pretty sure I didn’t have 4wd engaged all the way and it popped into 2wd during my qualifying run without me knowing. This caused us to be a little off pace and we got hung in the rock section for a few seconds. This put us starting 7th off the line for the prelim heat on Saturday. Starting from the back at the prelim was less than ideal. They watered the track and it was really sloppy at start of the race. With a visor full of mud we started passing cars and finished the 6 lap prelim in 3rd.
The main race was to be 10 laps. We started on the inside second row with John Rants in his Ford Performance Bronco in front of us and Sergio in his Jeep JL next to him. Green flag drops and we are off. The top 3 cars held pretty tight thru the first several muddy sloppy turns. In the rock section I caught Sergio hung up in the rocks and gave him a little bump to get him moving again. Up the hill on Sergios bumper we came to a hard left to downhill turn. Sergio went in a little too hot and I watched him bicycle for 20 feet trying to save it, but he couldn’t hang on and rolled. Knowing that Sergio was ok I continued on to catch the Bronco.
I caught the Bronco in the rocks on the second lap and was able to make a pass for first place. We were able to hold on to the lead for the rest of the race laying down constant lap times.
It was a great race and was a ton of fun.
The Jeep did great, the Falken Tires had amazing traction and Raceline Wheels with Coyote Enterprises LLC liners did their job as they always do.
Our Rock Krawler Suspension & steering held up to the abuse and the ADS Racing Shocks performed flawlessly.
We didn’t need to use our WARN Industries winch or our FACTOR 55 hardware at the race, but we did need to use the Savvy Off Road bumpers a few times.
Overall it was an amazing weekend at a great venue. Ultra4 USA should make this a yearly race, you all have to come next year.

We want to give a huge shout out to Jeremy Purick and Rock Krawler Suspension for saving our 2024 King of the Hammers race. During qualifying there was a rock hidden on the left that everyone was hitting and damaging their cars. We knew the rock was there but our GPS showed it a little further than it actually was. So we proceeded to blast the rock with our left front tire at speed. This impact snapped the tie rod end off inside the knuckle and twisted the knuckle where the tie rod end is located, effectively ending our qualifying run and limiting our chances of being able to repair it with a just a fresh tie rod end. Jeremy stepped up and had a solution, he had a new tie rod overnighted from NY with special ends so we could drill out the taper and run bolt on tie rod ends. This would have been an easy repair but our steering knuckle was twisted and the angle was making the new joints bind up. So our solution was a lakebed fix. We found a vendor on the lakebed that was selling nuts, bolts and misc hardware. I don't know their name but we really hope they will be there every year. We were able to get some large misalignment spacers, cut them down and grind away the base. This allowed us to drill out the knuckle and insert the spacer at the angle we needed and weld them in place with our Karnage Welder. With our new tie-rod in place were were able to run our race and finished in 6th place out of 50+ competitors. Not only does Rock Krawler Suspension supply us with all of our suspension components, they also support us at main camp and in the pits. RK is a huge supporter for the stock 4600 class and will be there when you need them most.

We want to say something about our Falken Tire and our Coyote Enterprises LLC internal beadlock liners. This years King of the Hammers was 150+ miles of some of the toughest offroad conditions we have seen. Our Falken 35 12.50 wild peak MTs held up to everything that was thrown at them, had amazing traction in the rocks and still looked great once we finished the race. We had ZERO flats and a lot of the reason for this is the Coyotee liners we run. The Coyote Enterprises LLC internal beadlock liner system provides us a "buffer" inside the tire and helps from getting "pinch" flats. We are only allowed to run a 35" tall tire so there is not a ton of rubber between the rocks and the wheel. This liner system creates an internal chamber that will absorb some of the impacts and if you do happen to damage a tire, will help keep it from going completely flat. Allowing you to continue your race a little further. With hat being said, we should also say something about our Raceline Wheels . These wheels have been the best wheels in the business for a reason. While we didn't get any flats this year, we have gotten flats before and these raceline monster beadlocks have held up to a tremendous amount of abuse while running on a flat. I have seen other brands of wheels curl up and bend around the caliper, these racelines may bend a little but the hold their shape and will take serious abuse. We have never damaged a raceline wheel to where it was not usable anymore.

We want to thank WARN Industries for allowing us to be a part of and making amazing products. Showing up to the the lakebed for king of the hammers can be daunting, it's always nice to have partners that are ready with the equiptment needed to complete the hardest single day offroad race in the world.
