Race recap. Bowling Green Kentucky April 2024
We fought hard and found a way to get to the top of the box and a 1st place finish at the Holley Battle of the Bluegrass in Bowling Green Kentucky.
The ole orange 4688 Rpmextreme - Warn Racing Jeep has seen a lot of miles and coming off of our finish at King of the Hammers we did minimal prep for this race.
Our Falken Tires and Rock Krawler Suspension were still in great shape from KOH so we did a bolt and fluid check and put her on the trailer for Kentucky.
Were were able to get some good practice runs on Friday morning, made a few adjustments to our ADS Racing Shocks and the Jeepeep felt great.
Qualifying was Friday afternoon and we wanted to put down a good time so we could start in the front for the prelim race.
I am pretty sure I didn’t have 4wd engaged all the way and it popped into 2wd during my qualifying run without me knowing. This caused us to be a little off pace and we got hung in the rock section for a few seconds. This put us starting 7th off the line for the prelim heat on Saturday. Starting from the back at the prelim was less than ideal. They watered the track and it was really sloppy at start of the race. With a visor full of mud we started passing cars and finished the 6 lap prelim in 3rd.
The main race was to be 10 laps. We started on the inside second row with John Rants in his Ford Performance Bronco in front of us and Sergio in his Jeep JL next to him. Green flag drops and we are off. The top 3 cars held pretty tight thru the first several muddy sloppy turns. In the rock section I caught Sergio hung up in the rocks and gave him a little bump to get him moving again. Up the hill on Sergios bumper we came to a hard left to downhill turn. Sergio went in a little too hot and I watched him bicycle for 20 feet trying to save it, but he couldn’t hang on and rolled. Knowing that Sergio was ok I continued on to catch the Bronco.
I caught the Bronco in the rocks on the second lap and was able to make a pass for first place. We were able to hold on to the lead for the rest of the race laying down constant lap times.
It was a great race and was a ton of fun.
The Jeep did great, the Falken Tires had amazing traction and Raceline Wheels with Coyote Enterprises LLC liners did their job as they always do.
Our Rock Krawler Suspension & steering held up to the abuse and the ADS Racing Shocks performed flawlessly.
We didn’t need to use our WARN Industries winch or our FACTOR 55 hardware at the race, but we did need to use the Savvy Off Road bumpers a few times.
Overall it was an amazing weekend at a great venue. Ultra4 USA should make this a yearly race, you all have to come next year.
