🐊 Happy Father’s Day ( Weekend) from Goggles the Gator and the entire Garden City Pool family! 💙
What does it mean to be a dad?
It means being the first one in the water because your little one is afraid to jump in alone.
It means carrying tired children back to the car after a full day at the pool, wrapped in a towel and asleep before you even leave the parking lot.
It means spending hours throwing dive toys into the water, playing catch in the deep end, or racing down the slide for “just one more time” even though you’re exhausted.
It means giving up your lounge chair so your kids and their friends have somewhere to sit.
It means making sure everyone has sunscreen on while forgetting to put it on yourself.
It means standing at the edge of the pool with your arms open, telling your child, “I’ve got you,” until one day they don’t need you to catch them anymore.
The Garden City Pool has always been about more than swimming. It’s about generations of families growing up together. It’s about fathers who once came here as little boys now teaching their own children how to swim in the very same pools.
It’s about the dads who grill at family parties, who spend hours in the kiddie pool because that’s where the biggest smiles are, who happily become human jungle gyms on the lawn, and who somehow end every day carrying three bags, two noodles, a pair of goggles, and one sleeping child.
One day those children will be grown. They won’t remember every summer day, but they’ll remember the feeling of safety when Dad was nearby. They’ll remember the races, the laughs, the cannonballs, the ice cream after swimming, the piggyback rides through the water, and the way Dad always seemed to make summer feel endless.
To every father, grandfather, stepfather, uncle, and father figure in our Garden City Pool family—thank you for creating the memories that become the stories your children will tell for the rest of their lives.
Because at the end of the day, being a dad isn’t about perfection.
It’s about showing up.
And every summer at the Garden City Pool, we see dads showing up in the most beautiful ways.
