THROWBACK THURSDAY!! ⏳

Published in 1897, this photograph was part of a pamphlet made by the Garden City Hotel, describing the town and its amenities. In this pamphlet, the Casino is listed as the primary source of entertainment in town, described as having “excellent bowling-alleys and a thoroughly equipped billiard-room” that overlook the tennis courts. Over 100 years later, the Casino no longer focuses on bowling or billiards, but tennis and social gatherings remain a hallmark of the community. 🎾

It was part of a larger collection of Garden City postcards, which includes other images from past ! This image highlights the central location of the club (which was named “Stewart Arms” at the time), directly next to the train station, the Cathedral, and the 7th Street area.

GC Casino Gold Claims the Championship! 🏆
August 18: An all-Casino showdown at the Master’s Country Club League of Long Island ended with the Garden City Casino Gold taking home the title!
Divided into two competitive squads this season, GC Casino completely dominated the Nassau County Senior League:
🎾 >>The Gold Team (Capt. Mike Sbeglia): Finished 1st in the regular season and capped off a stellar run with a dominant 10-2 victory (winning 3 of 4 court matches) in the finals.
🎾 >>The Green Team (Capt. Lou Fasano): Put up a fantastic fight, securing a strong regular season and an impressive playoff run to set up the historic all-Casino finals.
This victory marks the fourth title in the past six seasons for the GC Casino.
Huge congratulations to all the players on an incredible season! 🎾👏

Taking the Pennsylvania tubes? Consider Garden City! This week’s TBT comes from a pamphlet celebrating the opening of the Pennsylvania tubes, featuring various destinations to visit on Long Island. This issue, published in 1910, focused on Garden City, making the Casino a central attraction because of its proximity to the train station. Named “The Garden City Social Club” at the time, the casino was described as “the principal social club of the community”. 🚂

Huge congratulations to young Garden City Casino member Ben Wiese and his tennis partner CJ Bravo on capturing the NY State High School Tennis Doubles Championship at the US Tennis Center! 👑

Ben just finished his sophomore year at Garden City
High School and has a most promising tennis career ahead of him. Congratulations to Ben and the entire Wiese family!
