I have had several people contact me since my recent announcement that I was retiring as an outdoor writer and podcast host. I was indeed flattered and appreciated the POSITIVE comments and SUPPORT I received. I was asked if I could/would post updates on my two FACEBOOK pages including photos and "TIPS and TECHNIQUES" on hunting and fishing. My two pages are my main page "BUD FIELDS" and "OUTDOORS WITH BUD" and I WILL be more than HAPPY to reply to any messages if you contact me. The content will NOT be as lengthy but I will answer as BEST I CAN.

HOPE you folks ENJOY my latest article about OPENING DAY of the 2025 INDIANA ARCHERY DEER SEASON. It certainly does NOT happen that way often but I credit ALL the pre-season work with trail cameras, walking the woods, practicing with my weapons and the time spent actually hunting that can result in harvesting a deer!!

Made a quick trip to visit with my friends at BASSNBUCKS in Wabash. I needed to pick up a part for my TENPOINT CROSSBOW. Josh Butcher had the part ready for me. He also helped me with ordering a new breech plug for my 50cal CVA ACCURA 2 muzzleloader. If you need anything in the archery line or firearm line or if you need EXPERT technical work on your archery equipment or fi****ms, I recommend you take the short drive to BASSNBUCKS.. IF THEY DON'T HAVE IT, THEY CAN AND WILL ORDER IT FOR YOU!!

Had quite an eventful OPENING DAY of the 2025 INDIANA ARCHERY DEER SEASON. Climbed into my FAVORITE ladder stand at 6:30am. I heard deer movement around me within 20 minutes of settling in. I had a decent buck come in but it was so dark see it well enough for a decent shot. About 15 minutes later, there was a young doe come running in from the freshly picked bean field but she never slowed down. She was not flagging.. just bounding through. I thought, well, at least I am seeing deer. About 30 minutes later, I detected movement in front of me and slightly to my right. There were 3 does walking slowly and feeding on acorns that had been dropping. I used my digital rangefinder and I had the lead for at 38 yards. There was a tree she was approaching and it was 32 yards and wide open. I let her browse closer and when the reached the tree, I bleated to her and she stopped and looked around. I had shot several deer at this exact spot over the years. I placed my 30 yards crosshair of my TENPOINT CROSSBOW behind her right front shoulder and squeezed the trigger. I heard the bolt hit her and she took off and I could see the red just behind her right shoulder and she ran down the ravine and up the ridge behind my stand. I heard her crash to the ground. I climbed down at 8:55am and by 9:00am, I had seen a total of 9 deer and I had one "on the ground!"

I HOPE you folks ENJOY my article about testing broadheads. I AM aware of the necessity of durability of broadheads BUT I AM MORE concerned with a couple other considerations. This is MY PERSONAL assessment of what I CONSIDER to be the MOST IMPORTANT requirement when selecting broadheads.

The best broadhead is a sharp one that is well placed
