Member Monday Featuring : Dave King
Let's learn a little more about Dave.
Amy: How long have you been a member?
Dave: I have been a member for around six years. However, I have known Randy for more than 30 years. Did you know Randy was quite an athlete back then? He was bench-pressing 430 to 440 pounds in his prime!
Amy: Wow! Yes, I knew he was into bodybuilding, but I had no idea how strong he was. Way to go, Randy!
Dave: Yes. In fact, during that time, I was inspired to give bodybuilding a try, but I realized it wasn’t for me. Soon after, I found powerlifting and had some decent success there.
Dave is just being modest. He competed at the St. Louis ADFP, the American Drug-Free Powerlifting Association. He competed in the 181-pound weight class and took first place in the category for men over 40. Not only did he win his division, but he also placed second overall among all age groups. What a great accomplishment, Dave!
Amy: What do you do for a living?
Dave: I am retired from a career in financial services, having spent much of my career with Morgan Stanley.
Happy retirement, Dave! Retirement can be such a fun and exciting time.
Amy: What do you enjoy about the gym, and what is most important to you about your time at the gym now?
Dave: I love the friendly members at Fitness Pro. I especially admire Kat, who is at the gym every day and working hard. I also appreciate the gym’s location because it is very convenient for me. The fact that it is open 24/7 is another nice feature for my wife, Tawnya, and me.
My current routine includes about three days of cardio and three days of lifting each week.
Amy: What are your hobbies outside of the gym?
Dave: What Tawnya and I enjoy most is spending time with our three grandchildren. Attending their sporting events and watching them grow has been the highlight of this time in our lives. Our oldest grandson, Logan, is also a member at Fitness Pro. I also enjoy golfing twice a week.
Amy: Is there anything else you would like to share?
Dave: When it comes to staying active, find something you enjoy. Don’t worry about the opinions of others. If you enjoy it, do it! Don’t make excuses, and make staying active a priority.
Thank you, Dave, for allowing us a glimpse into your day-to-day life. It has been enjoyable learning about your interesting connection to Randy and your long-standing commitment to health and wellness.
