I am often asked, why do We spend so much time and effort on this travel ball thing? Why do We spend so much time on something we volunteer for? Why do we ALWAYS have to be at a softball field?
We don’t do it for the Trophies, or the rings, or the metals - we all know those have been a hit or miss this year. We don’t do it for the Money, as a matter of fact it usually costs us more than what the the fee for that season cost is! We don’t do it for the Friends, as the head coach- and his wife the enemy list is always longer than the friend list. And even then the TRUE friend list is even narrower than that.
The reason we do spend so much time, money and dedication on Travel Softball is right here in these pictures! These YOUNG LADIES !!! I am sure in these pictures all you see is a group of girls playing ball on a field, or a group of young ladies that went to the beach to play in the World Series! But I can promise you that is not what we see at all in these pictures!!! Some of Tracy and I see is the young lady who who just a few years ago had a health condition, so it made her hate the sport she once loved and wanted to quit-but she didn’t, we see the young lady who was told she wasn’t good enough to play for her previous team- but man if he could see her right now he would beg to differ, We see the young lady whose high school coach wouldn’t give her the time of day- but wow she is killing it now! We see the young lady who has inner battles of things out of her control- but she kills it on the field and leaves all that worry behind, We see the young lady who’s previous coaches made her want to give up, We see the young lady who wakes up every morning and puts in work for something she loves, We see the young ladies who fought all year and never gave up, We see a group of young ladies that are prepared for whatever life throws at them. When the time comes for softball to end for theses young ladies (let’s face it we are 18u division,so for some it’s closer than it is for others) I know this group of young ladies right here will have a bright future ahead of them! The reason I know, is because they never give up on one another, they never stop fighting, and they always want to go that extra step! My hopes and dreams for this group of young ladies is that someday they look back at this point in their life and remember the love that we had for every single one of them, and they understand that it wasn’t just a game, it wasn’t just a win/loss, it was them learning how to deal with life when it throws sticks and stones at you!!! (You get your softball bat and knock it outta the park!)
This Group of young ladies right here will ALWAYS have my heart, I ,as the head coaches wife, have loved them, and nurtured them, right along with wanting to beat their hind ends off! But I want them to always know they will always have me no matter where in life they may go!
