About Layne Performance:
Layne Performance is a 4,000 square foot training facility in downtown Gainesville, FL. Led by Dr. Andrew Layne, PhD, CSCS--an alum of the Dept. of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology at the University of Florida--Layne Performance specializes in providing evidence-based resistance training for weightlifters, athletes, and special populations.
About the position:
The Fitness Coach (part-time, with potential for full-time) will assist in the development of training plans, coach groups or individuals in exercise activities, demonstrate exercise techniques, record and monitor progress throughout the implementation of the exercise plan, develop new classes and clinics, participate in marketing and community outreach programs, and perform fitness assessments.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Instructs, motivates, safeguards, and assists clients as they practice exercises or functional activities. Observes clients during sessions to compile and evaluate data on their responses and progress.
• Provides general wellness and nutritional support to clients.
• Develops periodic schedules for classes and other fitness and wellness services.
• Teaches fitness classes, as needed.
• Conducts fitness equipment demonstrations, as needed.
• Designs and implements appropriate fitness assessments.
• Provides students with information and resources regarding nutrition, weight control, and lifestyle issues.
• Evaluates participants abilities, needs, and physical conditions, and develops suitable and sustainable training programs to meet special requirements.
• Ensures gym and equipment are clean, safe, and properly maintained.
• Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations governing proper use of exercise equipment and other equipment in the facility.
• Drafts and maintains records and reports related to services and programs provided, which may include tracking attendance, participation, and other metrics.
• Develops marketing campaigns to promote Layne Performance fitness and wellness programs or services to a targeted audience.
• Conducts, and analyzes the results of, surveys and interviews to gauge satisfaction with current programs and services and interest in new programs and services.
• Drafts promotional materials, which may include communication via social media, email, website(s), apps, and/or newsletters, outlining new and existing services and programs offered.
• Administers emergency first aid, wraps injuries, treats minor chronic disabilities, or refers injured persons to physicians.
• Assists with preparation and implementation of budgets.
• Assist in future hiring processes
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor’s (or in progress) in Exercise Science, Sport Science, Sport Performance, or a closely related field preferred.
Experience:
Strength conditioning at the collegiate or professional level, and/or experience in personal training and group fitness instruction preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of the fundamentals of exercise science and fitness techniques.
• Understanding of nutrition and diet.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Demonstrated ability to lead classes and individuals effectively.
• Ability to work independently.
• A passion for weightlifting, CrossFit, or other resistance exercise-based niche
Certification:
• Must maintain a personal training certification (CSCS or NSCA-CPT preferred) and CPR/AED training at all times.
