Welcome to the official Gainesville Pencak Silat page. I’m Guru Muda Kevin and have been practicing Pencak Silat for 13 years and I’m pleased to finally begin teaching here in Gainesville, FL for the community to learn about Silat combatives, self-defense and spirituality. The specific systems I practice and teach are a combination of Cimande and Serak Silat systems through ETS Silat. Pencak Silat

is a martial art that dates as far back as the 6th century and has it’s origins spread across South East Asia, particularly in the Indonesian Archipelago but also has roots in Malaysia as well as parts of the Southern Philippines. It has historically been used during periods of war throughout the rise and fall of empires such as the Majapahit and Srivijaya as well as during colonization by the Dutch. It has a particular emphasis on edge and impact weapon usage such as: knife, rattan stick, short staff, kerambit, parang as well as a wide assortment of many others. In the system I teach, we also incorporate animal mannerisms and movements such as Monkey, Crane, Snake, Tiger and Dragon (a synthesis of all 4 animals) originating from Willy Wetzel's Silat system of Pukulan Tjiminde. Hello everyone,

Classes at the Gainesville Dojo will officially be ending Sunday the 28th of this month as I will be moving out of state some weeks after that.

It's been a pleasure being in the Gainesville community to teach Silat. For the last 2 years, I've had great and unforgettable experiences meeting so many people and being trusted to share what I know of the art. My deepest thanks to you all who gave me the opportunity to do so while also supporting this group and page! 🙏

I will keep the page up for a few weeks to further promote ETS Silat and the art in general before officially closing the page out. If you're interested in learning and are in the South FL area, feel free to reach out to our system founder, Guru Darren on either link below. He also offers Zoom classes to interested parties as well for long distance learning.
