Are you worried about your child and their BMI?

Good news: kids are a lot more resilient to gaining weight than first thought!

It takes a much longer period of time of calorie over-consumption to gain weight for our children.

Also, if your child is over weight and has not gone through their growth spurt, then losing weight should not be the main focus. They simply need to slow weight gain as they grow!

The formula is specific and I can gladly share but to give you an example:

1) For a 10 year old who is 10 pounds overweight, to maintain current weight, decrease calorie intake by 200 calories/day. That can be achieved by taking out the after dinner 'dessert.'

2) for a 8 year old girl who is 15 pounds overweight, to maintain current weight, decrease current calorie intake by 300 calories per day. That can be achieved by replacing the afternoon carb-loaded snack with a piece of fruit.

As a parent, the main take-away should be to increase the movement nutrition in your household and cut one snack daily. No need to focus on the scale or a number. Make some healthy changes as a family and everyone will benefit!!

Paleo Blender Mini Muffins

Ingredients:

1Banana
1 Egg
1/2 Cup Almond Butter
3 Tbsp Maple Syrup
1 Tbsp Vanilla Extract
1/4 tsp Baking Soda
pinch of salt
Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients except Chocolate Chips in blender and blend until smooth. Add chocolate chips and fold batter over. Grease mini muffin pan with coconut oil and fill up the pan with batter. Cook for 8-10 minutes in the oven.

Team TrueFit Mint Brownies
Dairy-dree/Gluten-free/Paleo Friendly

INGREDIENTS:
¼ cup coconut flour
¼ cup All Natural Carob Powder (or cocoa powder)
½ tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
1 egg
2 Tbsp. Coconut butter
2 Tbsp. raw honey
¾ cup unsweetened vanilla coconut milk
1 tsp organic vanilla extract
1 tsp peppermint extract
Layering of Enjoy Life’s mini chocolate chips to fold into batter

DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350.
2. In one bowl, combine and whisk all dry ingredients. (I like to pre-sift)
3. In mixing bowl, combine all wet ingredients and whisk together.
4. Pour dry mix into mixing bowl and whisk together.
5. Fold chocolate chips into batter.
6. Bake for 10-15 minutes in mini muffin tin. (line the tin with papers or spray with coconut oil so batter does not stick to pan.
