March is Women’s History Month, and this month, we are proud to highlight some of the amazing women who are making a lasting impact at the Georgia Mountains YMCA. Today, we recognize Christian Mims, Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
Her favorite part about working at the Y is seeing the real impact we have on people every day. Whether it is a child gaining confidence, a parent finding support, or someone improving their health, you can see lives changing in real time. It makes the work feel meaningful beyond just a job. Dr. April Conley Kilinski, her women’s writing professor, had a lasting impact on who she is today. She challenged her to think more deeply, find her voice, and communicate with purpose. The way she created space for honest expression while still holding high expectations shaped how Christian approaches both leadership and storytelling. Women’s History Month is a time to recognize the impact women have made across generations, often without recognition. It is also a reminder to continue creating space for women to lead, grow, and be heard, not just this month but every day. What connects most deeply with her is the Y’s commitment to being for everyone. The YMCA meets people where they are, whether that is a child learning to swim for the first time, a family needing reliable childcare, or an adult working to improve their health. It removes barriers and creates access so that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, can grow and thrive. The Y responds to real needs in the community. Programs are built around what issues are facing our community right now, and they evolve as those needs change. That ability to listen, adapt, and show up where it matters most is what makes the mission so impactful.
Thank you Christian for all you do for the Y and for making a lasting impact!
