I am saddened to share with you the loss of another friend and teammate. Brian Dayett played alongside me for the Cubs starting in the 1985 season and through the 1987 season.

He was drafted by the Yankees organization in 1978, and made his MLB debut with them in 1982. He was a Yankee for two seasons before being traded to the Cubs. After his Cubs career came to a close he was purchased from Chicago by the Nippon Ham Fighters, playing his final three years in Japan.

In 1997 he began a long and successful coaching career as a manager in the independent leagues, successfully navigating his career in player development all the way up to a position coaching for the Texas Rangers MLB club in 2014.

Brian fought a 25 year battle against Parkinson’s Disease, with the loving support of his wife Christine and their two sons. He became critically ill in early 2024 and held on fiercely for an amazing year and a half - to be with those he held dearest and to continue watching baseball, a game which he loved until the end.

He knew of Ryno’s passing and prayed for the Sandberg family. Please now offer your prayers for strength and peace for the Dayetts.
