It’s All About The Hug.
Last night as we were sharing a meal with Josh’s family Patton crawled up in his Daddy’s lap and threw his little arms around his neck
What that said to me was Daddy is my safe place and in my heart I love him. It was a spontaneous act that said far more than words!
I have seen this picture many times lived out in my children’s families. After good or not so good athletic events ,hellos and goodbyes , and like this one just because I love you. From the oldest at 21 to the youngest at 5 they are huggers. And yes they all hug me. That’s the best
So hug those who are dear to you. Communicate you are a safe place of acceptance , grace and love.
Yes it’s all about the hug because it’s all about the heart.

Our children need to be confident in the support of their parents to keep going. A child is less likely to give up when their parents are ready to hug them after the game ⚾️🏐🏀⚽️🏈

What have your children learned about good sportsmanship? Is this exemplified in the home, on the teams, and in the stands? It is caught not taught, they often say. Let your child see your love for them and the game by the way you respond. Be sure to always give them a hug ⚽️⚾️🏀🏐🏈

After Kelly’s dad passed, she shared this fond memory with me:
A hug worth a thousand words. My dad went to Western Caroline University and so did my mom. Growing up he would take us to football and basketball games. They were some of my favorite memories with him. We were part of the Cat Club so at halftime we always went to the hospitality suite where they had unlimited food and drinks for all of the members. I remember it always made me feel so special, and of course EVERYONE in the Cat Club knew dad. So naturally when I went to college, I decided to cheer for the Catamounts. She will never forget this core memory she has with her father 🤍🩵💙

A few weeks ago I sat by my son's bedside in the emergency room in Columbus, GA. When Jim and I left home, we had no idea how the day would go. Pops is their chaplain and mentor so we go to every game. During the 2nd inning of the second game, Micah messaged Pops. He was not feeling well: numbness, blurry vision and confusion. Immediately after seeing them, they rushed to the hospital.
Later after I sat with Mo, I thought back to other times I had been in this similar place, with another son. Each time they had been doing what they loved, with the game they loved.
After many tests and many hours, Mo was released to go home. What was important was not the outcome of the game nor the standings. Jonmark often says, “It’s not about baseball. It’s so much more.” He’s right!
Riding home with Pops and Mo, this mom was thinking about past hugs and the hugs I get to keep giving my son. Now, that’s important!
So my word to all is, “Make hugs a habit because it’s all about the heart!”
Hugs bring healing!
