The Sarasota Football Club (SFC) men's soccer team is breathing a sigh of relief today, after enduring a close game Sunday against the formidable St. Petersburg Football Club Rowdiest (FCR) at Richardson Road Field.

After a lackluster nil / nil first half, the game started to slip away from SFC. The Rowdiest exerted a dominating defensive back wall that seemed impenetrable as they mount a 0 - 2 lead in the second half.

SFC was finally able to get on the scoreboard when a corner kick fell at the feet of Cuban born mid-fielder Ricardo Pena. Ricardo, known to his SFC teammates as Ricky, whorled with the ball and booted it into the goal to start the comeback.

SFC forward Stephen McNeill was responsible for the favorable finish as he contributed late game heroics by converting two second half goals. The most dramatic coming via a penalty kick with only 12 minutes remaining. After having been viciously taken down by a tackle in the box, Stephen waited patiently for the goal keeper to over commit himself during the ensuing penalty kick, before slamming home the game winner into the back of the net.

These two teams are likely to meet again toward the end of the regular season when the Suncoast Premier League Champion is determined.
