Top of the morning Volleyball fam!
I just wanted to check in with everyone and get some feed back on how you approach the concept of Mental Health with your athletes.
There's a lot of great people on here so i'm excited to learn with you!
I bring up the topic because as it's common to see from Mid season to post season teams are working their tails off to catch that bids, prep for school ball, and repeat this cycle.
With that in mind, what are some ways you Check In on your players!?
Comment below! Thank you in advance

What up Wednesdays!?
I hope all is well! Coach Carl tapping in on this gloomy Wednesday Morning and would like to talk share about a topic that all too often gets OVERLOOKED by Athletes and Families

Embracing The Pace of Your Journey

Do you sometimes feel behind or not enough..
or moving too slow?

A constant reminder I've received from someone I worked with is..

TO PUMP THE BRAKES & SLOW DOWN

There’s no deadline in when you're supposed to be the greatest

Coach John Wooden said..."Be quick, but don't Hurry"

Embrace your journey, the failures and successes because what matters most is YOUR growth.

Instead of comparing yourself to everyone else, spend that energy and time embracing you.

Who you are and how you show up for your team

Be the teammate that you want to be.

What are you doing to make others around you better?

There's enough room on the track for all of us.

Who else needs this reminder today??

Share your thoughts below if you've experienced something like this before. Coaches, Players, Families are all welcome!

Coach Carl working on setting butter!
If you’re an experience or novice setter there’s keys all apply when setting a volleyball.
Let’s not forget the goal is to set a hittable ball and one that can be repeated effectively.
Happy setting fam!

We coached at Harvard Westlake School together for the Freshmen team. I learned a lot those years about why challenging and allowing athletes to think for themselves, with guidance from us is extremely important when building better people.
All too often coaches (myself included) give so much feedback by way of telling athletes what to do versus questioning what they are doing to help them understand why... I saw more growth happen with our teams in a small period of time and it was remarkable to learn they're better off in the world because we provided challenges and guidance. Therefore, I tip my hat off to you my friend, and helping me understand more about the possibilities we have as humans to become better everyday.
Pic 2: summer clinics. I can't recall exactly where, but this group of athletes were awesome! Work ethic to the roof for each other, and their willingness to be coachable. This was back in 2015ish and I spent 5:8 hr days training, coaching, and enjoying the blessings that GMS provides us as coaches. Just want to say thank you!

A few weeks ago my 13's National team took first place. I have to say there has been ups and downs, battling for positions, learning to become a team player in this highly competitive Region of North Dallas Texas we live and play in.

In the end, everyone plays a supporting role in the success and fails of our team. Myself included, being their coach. This was a great day because it came with a lot of challenges, character building moments, and in the end...It was great to be rewarded with amount of work going into it.

Let it be known...life goes on after 13 years old, and we can learn from all the lessons life throws at us. That's what is most exciting about this day. It's ain't always sunshines and rainbows because winning requires you to be willing to go head first in the dirt, dig. yourself out of it, and pressing forward with you and your squad.

Press on fam.

Finished 2nd in pool play. Headed into Gold bracket today. After our first match we revisited that works called Discipline. Our team came to grips that no matter who you’re playing, we should play the way we train, and make discipline present in all that we do. We realized waiting to execute what we’ve been trained to do and how we display our discipline is an important factor in Volleyball and in life.
We dropped a well hard earned match against a team that came at us with heat, size, and power. We also showed that when we were disciplined in our Reading, communication, and finding gaps in their defense, we kept things real close. Therefore, the hard earned loss reminds and shows us what we are capable of doing, and that’s exciting for our team.

My 13 National team experienced some humbling and character building moments. We came home placing 3rd 🥉 overall in the tournament, with many lessons to be acquire.
I can’t say we played optimally as we did 2 weeks ago after coming off the MLK Bid tournament where we finished 2nd place and competed against very challenging and competitive teams to earn our 2nd place finish in the tourney.
As a coach I failed them, I felt more frustrated simply because we were being challenged in a different way, and I clearly expected to see a different outcome. Therefore, my head wasn’t in the right place, and I can’t say my coaching was optimal as well to lead. Because I failed, we failed, we learned, and we’ve agreed to recognize our faults, small successes to come back ready to train.
Proud to say we came home with some hardware as it was well earned, and proud to admit my moments of failing. Without it we can’t learn and grow. Cheers to learning and getting punched in the face! Back to work squad
