“Working the ATG program with Cory over the last 16 months has been an amazing game changer. He’s one of a handful of level 2 certified trainers in the world and I’m having the best results of my entire masters career”

Tom Wolf began swimming Masters after quite a successful high school and college career. A job change in 1983 took Tom to Washington DC where he was introduced to DC Master’s swimming.

After a six-year hiatus, Tom rediscovered his passion for swimming, joined the DC club and after just four months back in the water, attended the 1983 U.S. Masters Long Course Nationals in Indianapolis where he proceeded to set FINA world records in the 50, 100, and 200 backstroke and win his age group’s 200 and 400 IM.

Tom’s Masters career has been exceptional despite being plagued with fits and starts. After six years out of the water from 1991-1996, Tom started working his way back to world record form, culminating with an outstanding year in 2004 as he turned 50, setting six world records. However, between 2005 and 2021, Tom had all his major joints repaired or rehabilitated – both shoulders and both knees. Returning to the pool after these rehabs was a slow climb, with only one new world record through 2023.

As of his induction in 2023 to the Masters International Swimming Hall of Fame, Tom has set 28 FINA/World Aquatic backstroke and individual medley world records. 2024 marks his entry into the 70-74 age group, his tenth, where he has already added five individual and seven relays to his record count.

Come join Wolf and the other Masters on October 4th. If you can’t, won’t you please consider a donation to ISHOF? click here: https://www.ishof.org/donate/ (https://www.ishof.org/donate/)

Getting a cortisone shot can feel like a modern-day miracle if you’re in pain.

You walk in with a throbbing shoulder and by the time you get back home you feel good as new.

If it feels better then it must be fixed right?

WRONG.

Cortisone injections can reduce inflammation but they don’t actually cause any healing.

In fact, cortisone shots are catabolic, which means they cause tissue to BREAK DOWN.

I don’t know about you but tissue break down doesn’t sound all that great to me.

So we end up with a conundrum, the thing feels better but the tissue is now weaker than it was before the injection.

Do you see where this is going?

The primary value of cortisone as we see it is that it creates a window of reduced pain so that you can actually fix the problem that caused it!

Without this approach, you’re heading straight for another, possibly WORSE injury and that’s something we’ve seen more times than we can count.

We want you to get back to doing the things you love without the fear of something else going terribly wrong.

That’s why every person who works with us gets a professional coach that creates a personalized program just for them that specifically meets their needs and goals.

If you’re ready to do away with the quick fixes and get out of pain for good, shoot us a DM and we’ll get started.

When we talk about bridging the gap between fitness and healthcare, we mean being able to serve those that the health industry doesn’t have the time, or resources, to be able to help.

Your chronic back issue, your nagging knee pain, the 20lbs of weight loss, the confidence of being strong enough to do all the things you want to do, adjusting nutrition and exercise to fix lipid panels, and the list goes on.

We aren’t going to lie, these aren’t miracle cures or overnight fixes. Your problems did not show up overnight, therefore, they are going to take some work, time, and patience, to address.

What we do know is that this works. People's lives are changed for the better. The weight is lost, the pain is gone, the movements are better, and the confidence is amazing. Our testimonials say so.

Our facility and other Active Life facilities like ours are the healthcare clinics of the future.

Seriously.

We’re helping people get out of pain and reclaim their active lifestyles without going to the doctor or quitting the things they love. We can do it for you too.

Pain creates tunnel vision.

When you’re in serious pain, avoiding making it worse and figuring out how to get rid of it become your top priorities.
You still want to play on the floor with your kids.
You still want to run with your dog in the mornings.
You still want to be able to move the furniture in your home without asking for help.
Your desires haven’t changed, and not being able to do those things you love and or need to do can be MADDENING.

Days feel like weeks and months feel like years.
That’s why patience is a powerful ingredient in your rehab journey.

It stops you from quitting.
It helps you stay consistent.
It helps you maintain a positive outlook.

So how can you be more patient when you’re in the thick of an injury?

At ATG Frisco we do it by pulling back the curtain.
We do everything possible to help our clients understand exactly what’s happening with their bodies, where they are in the healing process, what the rehab process will look like moving forward, and letting them know along the way what needs to happen for them to achieve their next milestone.

Patience is easy when you’re not sitting in the dark.

If you’re ready to get out of the dark and work with someone to get out of pain who will help you understand your body and what needs to be done so you can get back to your active lifestyle, shoot us a message, we’d love to help.

We believe in assessing where you’re at to know how to best help you go where you want to go.

We’re not all built the same.

We don’t all perform the same.

Our programming might need to be individualized accordingly.

Here’s a basic example:

For every one rep you can deadlift 100lbs you should be able to:
Back-squat 80lbs
1 arm carry 50lbs for 10 meters

Let’s say you can back squat and deadlift the same weight as each other... continuing to train both the hinge and squat pattern the same may lead to aches, pains and further imbalances, not to mention a loss of performance.

We want to make sure we take your abilities, strengths and weaknesses into account when creating a program. This is why we start with an assessment.

If building structural balance to achieve your pain free active life is important to you, reach out to us to start the conversation.

Guess what?!

You’re not the same as the person next to you.

Even if you have the EXACT same goals, your path to get there is going to be very different.

Why? Because there are SO many factors that make you, YOU!

Let’s take getting stronger for example. So many people come to us and want to get stronger.

Can’t argue with that, there are many benefits to having stronger muscles and bones.

Let’s take Mary, a mother of 2 that works a full-time job, and has a history of mostly running and some hamstring issues.

Does it make sense that her path to getting strong should look exactly the same as John who is 65 years old and about to retire and was generally very sedentary prior?

No, we know that. That’s obvious to many.

But what if we take Mary and compare her to Jane who ALSO was a runner, also has 2 kids, also has a full-time job, and also wants to get stronger.

On paper they sound pretty similar, but what happens if we take a look at their flexibility and mobility joint by joint?

What happens when we take a look at their muscular strength balance across joints?

What happens when we look at how Mary is handling work stress, sleep, nutrition, and recovery vs Jane.

Now we start to see two seemingly similar individuals who may not be so similar at all, and if they are following the same exact plan to get “stronger”, who is the plan actually written for?

I can’t…

I was told…

I have…

I can’t squat anymore.

I was told I have the spine of an 80-year-old.

I have bad knees just like my Dad.

When you have limiting beliefs like this it makes it VERY hard to get out of pain.

Why?

Because they keep you out of the driver’s seat.

When you believe getting out of pain is OUT of your control how consistent are you going to be putting in the reps?

How much more likely are you to give up when there’s a flare-up?

How quickly will you throw in the towel when you learn the process itself may take months?

Our professionals know, and that’s why they get to the bottom of what their clients believe from day one.

We won’t just put you through a movement and strength assessment, we also take the time to get to know you.

You’re not taking a number and waiting for a pat on the head from someone in a white coat.

Your professional will take 45 minutes to an hour (maybe longer if you need it) with you to get to know YOU, your goals, and your beliefs.

And because your professional will do that they'll be able to help you through setbacks, hard times, and moments of doubt/fear.

If you’re in pain and any of this talk about beliefs around pain resonates with you we want to help get you OUT of that pain for good.

Send us a DM we would love to talk to you.

You probably read that and thought “That’s definitely not true”, but hear us out...
We don’t believe anybody joins the gym to just get fit. People join because of what they think being fit will do for them and how they will feel. It’s not fitness for the sake of fitness.

It’s fitness for the things they believe they will be able to do with their fitness and the way it will make them feel.

Here are some things that people think fit people can do:
Be happy
Live a long time
Live well while alive
Get s*x
Fight off others
Have confidence
Make a better living
Play with their kids
Look good naked
Stay off medications

This is not an exhaustive list, and it took 40 seconds to come up with the ten examples. The point is that no one joins for the fitness, they join for the benefits of being fit.

None of the above are guaranteed to someone who is fit, and none of them are out of the realm of possibility for someone who is not.

We realize that your fitness is MORE than just fitness. It’s about what you can do and how you feel because of it.

This begs the question, why do you work out?

What are you looking for?

Tell us in the comments.
