How often do you find yourself feeling limited by your own talent? Do you see others succeeding as a result of them having more gifts than you? You may be falling into a common mental trap known as the fixed mindset. When people practice a fixed mindset they avoid challenges because they don’t believe they’re good enough to overcome them. Researcher Carol Dweck coined the terms fixed and growth mindset to identify the way people view intelligence and learning. Individuals who practice a growth mindset embrace challenges because it’s a fundamental belief that they can learn from those challenges. Today I’ll share my favorite growth mindset strategy, the word “yet”. I haven’t lost weight, “yet”. I haven’t built my business, “yet”. I haven’t achieved my goals, “yet”. Without “yet” our perspective appears final, but with “yet” our perspective can shift to believe that there is more to come.
