In 2025 roughly 40,000 men took their life. Men equate to about 80% of all su***de deaths per year. As a veteran I do pay attention to statistics more geared towards veterans. In 2023, approximately 61% of veterans who committed su***de, were not getting the mental health treatment that potentially could have saved their life. Be actively engaged with mental health programs prior to being at a point of crisis so that you can have the tools necessary when things are bad and the capability of using techniques to hopefully steer away from chaos but instead maybe a controlled spiral so that you’re here another day. I would encourage each and everyone of you to go join Su***de Prevention AlSu***de Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County chapter and organization, which do numerous community events throughout the year and can provide the tools needed to get your mental health on track. During a point of chaos, thinking logically is unlikely so keeping your mental health in check even when everything is going good can give you resources, tricks, tips, a community of belonging & a more clear vision of hope! Most Americans see a doctor annually for a routine checkup but very few will seek a counselor to ensure their mental health is. Mental health and speaking about maintaining yours, is a sign of strength and a more proven method that you’ll see another tomorrow. Lastly, I will leave you with the National Crisis Hotline number which you can call or text; 988. Those on the other end of that line our trained professionals, but they cannot diagnose so if you’ve ignored telling a doctor due to fear of diagnosis maybe 988 is a better resource. If you know someone who is having mental health issues and you don’t know who to contact, you can also call or text 988 to get information on how you could help a friend.
