Junior Team, Grades 5th-8th

Practices begin in Spring each season (Late April until the Meet in June). Listen to your announcements at your school for rider enrollment or watch this page for more information if you live in Fremont School District. Re-enrollment starts each season in April for the Junior team, 5th to 8th grades. Senior Team, Grades 9th-12th

For the Senior Season you must be a full-time student at Fremont High School in 9th to 12th grades. For more information watch this page starting in July of each year. The school will also send out notifications within the Fremont High School announcements and page starting in August. Practices begin in late August and go through to the last meet. Senior team meets are in September and October of each season.

District 9 Coaches had a very productive meeting this past week. We have made some changes to our show schedule this year to hopefully move our show along without making exhibitors feeling rushed. Please note the changes. We have 30 riders this year. 1 A Division team. 2 B Teams, 1 C Team and 5 D Teams. Please note that we have moved Trail up to start right after Hunt Seat and Reining will be our first western class. In rail classes A&D will run together as will B&C.

Lots of information to relate to our District 9 leadership! We will be holding our in-person meeting on Tuesday August 25 at Russ; Restaurant in North Muskegon. The address is1499 East River Road and we will meet at 7 PM. We will be filling out our work and responsibility roster, introduce coaches and hand in required paperwork. For coaches and volunteers, I need a volunteer form filled out as we need to do background checks. Each rider and groom will need the rider registration form with insurance information and permission to treat form. Each horse will need a horse registration form and current Coggins Test. Limit of 2 horses per rider. A concussion training certificate for each rider and coach. Proof of attendance from the school for each rider. I have notebooks and files for each team this year to make thing more consistent. We can also discuss our financials, judges, patterns, schedule and future leadership. If you cannot attend or send a representative please get your paperwork to Sheri Howe, Jo Ann Kosanic or someone else you know will be attending. Not sure why this post keeps disappearing! But here are the financial team costs for the District 9 season. Little has changed from last year except for the cost of shavings.
Rider registration fee $100.00
Groom registration fee $15.00
Coaches optional insurance fee $10.00
Horse Stalls $75.00
Tack Stalls $45.00
Campsites $110.00
Shavings per bag $7.50
Be sure to be working on your paperwork for the senior season, I have new binders and files for everyone. One thing we were a little lacks on Junior season was some failed to get volunteer forms on those that were helping you. I need to do security checks on those people so be sure to have them fill out the form that is located on the www.miha.org website. All forms need to be to me by August 25 because I need to hand them in on August 26. Some have asked to meet in person, and I have arranged to have a space at the Russ' Restaurant in North Muskegon on the 25th. We will start at 7:00 pm. I will send the address and more information to follow.

It's starting to get real Senior riders! The 2026 patterns for your season are posted on the www.miha.org web site. Meet 1 will be judged by Lora Hicks Thorsby and we will ride all the Hunt Seat Patterns. Meet 2 will be Judged by Morgan Weaver and we will ride all the Saddle Seat Patterns. Meet 3 will be Judged by Marc DeLisle and we will be riding all the Western Patterns. All of the patterns have important skills for you to have, so just because you are not being judged on those during your District meets does not mean you won't need those skills at the Regional and State level. Be smart and use those other patterns as a learning resource!
